Does society place too much pressure on women to get married?
38 Answers
I ask because I've been asked myself how am I ever going to meet 'Mr Right' if I'm having no strings dabbles with other blokes and because at least two posts I've seen today congratulate women for having found boyfriends. I think some women want partners because society tells them there is something wrong with them if they are single. Any views? I'm not a man hating feminist by the way, but it has got me thinking.

Without Prejudice.
How old are you Sasha? if you don't mind me asking :-)
I'm not convinced any woman would be happy just screwing around with no strings unless they're getting paid for it. Of course, these guys you are seeing (are they 1 night stands then? or are they married?)..... are they paying for dinner out or just getting you drunk or do you just give out and say thanks I needed that. If that is the case a vibrator would be easier and no chance of an STD.
Are you doing this regularly?
LOL at your society ideas :-) What's wrong with the idea of a romantic long term relationship and marriage for certain girls......
Careers coming first maybe? or just getting knocked up and who's the daddy girls......
Which part of society are you referring to? that tells girls they're not right if they're not married btw?

i think now days its different back in the day marrage was a big thing, but today i think single is the new thing! more people i meet are single and the ones that arent want to be. Marrage is too expensive and i would rather put the money on a deposite for a house. I think that marrage is something people should think more about these days and you can still do everything else in life whether your married or not.
I dont think society in general puts pressure on women - just some people. Dont get me wrong if you had asked me say 10 years ago I would have thought by now I would be happily married and settled with children as back then it was what I thought i wanted. I am single as have not met my Mr Right(there may be someone out there). I have to say my life is so full now of good happy things I feel I am now more than happy as I am(only thing is I would have loved to have children - not necessarily give birth to them that perhaps one day I will be in a position to adopt!). My brother and sister have children that my parents have been blessed with grandchildren so no pressure on me - and all my family realise I have a happy life and never put any pressure on me. Some people though do feel the need to ask 'will you never settle down' 'have you not met anyone yet' even 'hopefully one day soon you will meet someone and get married'. I have given up answering them - those are the people who I believe felt they had to get married - regarless of who to! ps....i have many single friends too, perhaps another reason why I lead a full and happy life, plenty of people to socialise and travel the world with
Just to put things into perspective, getting married shows a committment co-habiting partners don't have.
Its so much easier if your not married, to walk away, which if there are children involved, shows a lack of responsibility.
Society, rightly or wrongly, judges men and womens behaviour differently, and that won't change.
If a woman is known for sleeping around, she won't find someone to commit long term, which really, is the ultimate goal of most men and women.

I had my son 14 years ago, and I never wanted to marry his father. We split up when my son was 2.I have had a few relationships since then, but no-one I wanted to marry. The thing is, I find it easier, my biological clock isnt ticking anymore, I have a wonderful son.Maybe for some women half the problem is thinking time is running out to have a child, not actually wanting to meet mr right. The good thing is, in my mid-thirties, I dont have that panic, if I meet someone I want to be with rather than settling for a suitable 'sperm donor', fair enough. If I dont, that's just life.I'm sure most women , however, would like to meet mr right and have a family before time runs out.In your 30s though, its much harder, most 'decent guys' have settled down.

Sleepyj. If the cap fits, wear it. Is it not true that the object of a great percentage of young girls is to have a child & then live on benefit. If the stigma of ******** was brought back this country would once again GREAT Britain.
I know that people used to live without benefit of Clergy but at least they had the dignity of pretending they were married. The so called celebraties who flaunt the fact that they are pregnant to a temporary "boyfriend" serve only to lower the standards of decent society.
The posts on this site lead me to believe that there are a lot more local "Bikes" around now than there used to be.

gundog-you take pride in trying to antagonise people with your run-of-the mill uninformed comments.its quite funny actually, you are one of those 19 year olds who hasnt lived yet and sees everything in black in white and has that nauseatingly biased view of the world.By the way, who do you really think killed Bambi?
If you are not 19, I'm sure you are one of these 30 yr olds who still lives with their mum and dad and hasnt matured emotionally.Either way, you're an eejit!
