I've been thinking about trying slimming pills, I only have a little bit of weight to lose, eat a very low fat diet, regular dog walking, bit of bike riding (not as regular as it should be!), sometimes I do the Davina DVD (if I don't need my legs for the next week that is!!) and I have a leg master I use daily - which is fab I might add!! Despite all this I'm not seeing any great results and wondered if anyone had any advice on slimming pills before I go and buy something potentially harmful?

The less weight you have to lose, the harder it is, but it is a simple equation; you need to burn more calories than you consume. Try keeping a food diary of everything you eat per day. You may well find that you actually eat more than you realise- snacks etc. You may also find that you are eating big portions, or food which is higher in fat than necessary. Just by swapping to lower fat versions you can save yourself calories. Have one piece of toast in the morning rather than two. Take the stairs rather than the lift. Don't eat after 7pm. Try a new sport like swimming which you will enjoy, rather than forcing yourself to do Davina every now and again! Cut back on alcohol if you drink- only drink 1 day a week rather than 2 etc. Also, it is OKAY to be a bit hungry! The way I rationalise it is, if I am a bit hungry, then I am using my fat stores for energy rather than eating more. I need to use my fat stores as I have too much fat! So, being hungry is just your body saying "Feed me! You usually feed me now!!" when actually, feeding is not always necessary.
Also eat and chew slowly, and really listen to your body- stop when you are "content", not full or stuffed.x

Thanks Scarlett I really appreciate your answer and I relate to all those things, I've been doing them for over a year now! I have lapses of shame ie, Christmas!, but then I'm back to the diet. I eat little and always before 7pm, I'm look at the fat content in EVERYTHING!!, and I do try to exercise (whilst fitting it in with 2 jobs and a family of course!) - I think now I'm just getting desperate!
I did everything you shouldn't do.
A hearty breakfast of coffee, crispbread and cheese spread, left out lunch (you get used to it)
evening meal (cold) with wholemeal bread ,smoked ham and guerkin (with lots of pepper).
I drank lots of lemon juice with sparkling mineral water(very refreshing) and , most important , had one "indulgence" day a week when I spoiled myself with anything I fancied, chocolate, crisps, roast chicken.
It was easy to stick to, cos I just looked forward to Saturday.
Maybe not for everyone, but I lost 15 kilos in 6 months!

A cold meal doesn't bloat you the way a hot meal does, especially in the evening, and the wholemeal bread helps your digestion. For the first week I took wheatmeal tablets (the kind that swell in your stomach to stop you feeling hungry) and plenty to drink. After that you don't miss lunch really. Another tip - wear heels! They`great for posture (tummy muscles!) and you can't slouch even in not-so-high heels. Whatever you do, keep it simple - makes it easier to stick to, and unsweetened pineapple slices for afters if you like are also good for your digestion. Good Luck!
I agree with a lot of what scarlett says-but why the 7pm cut-off everyone seems to be advocating? I know I couldn't do that-i don't get home til 7! and Tara-you would be better off eating a slice of wholemeal or having a few rice cakes rather than a tablet (wheat or otherwise)-is there any science behind it?
Nope, it's pure wheatgerm. It's just dried and pressed, so that when you drink enough water it swells up again and makes you feel full. All the things I did were purely instinctive, no plan or recommendation, but with absolute determination!

Regarding the 7pm, there is a lot of disagreement about whether eating late and then sleeping alters your metabolism. I am inclined to think that it makes no difference when you eat your evening meal, calorie wise. However! I have found that if you eat at 6pm or 6.30pm, by the time you go to bed, you have digested it, you may even feel a little bit hungry. I know that if I go to bed slightly hungry, I lose weight. If i eat at 8pm or later, by that time I am so starving that I make and eat far too much. Then I go to sleep. It is better to eat small amounts regularly, as this keeps your blood sugar ticking over and means you avoid over eating due to being really hungry.
