I sometimes get upstairs, into the lounge/library/kitchen, only to discover that in the short time it took to get there I've quite forgotton what I went for.

It's not somthing that just happens now I've lurched into seniority, but I can remember this being annoying in my teens.

Am I alone in this?

Hey Hippy!
Noooooo! I've been like that for the last 5 years and I'm only 29!!! LMAO
No, you're not alone Hippy. Shows you have an active mind:-)
Most of us are like this to some extent. Have you never heard the expression "Your head will never save your heels"?
Go back to where you came from and it will come back to you immediately what you left for, I have been doing this for years and years and it always works. Welcome to the club.
You're definitely not alone, I'm 41 but I've done this all my life! Even walking just a few feet through one door into another room can be enough to scramble what I laughingly call my "brain." Perhaps that's what causes it - the change of scenery?

Like PG suggests, go back to where you "think" you were when you had the original thought and try to remember what you were doing... usually you get the same thought process and... BINGO!!! back on track!

How sad is it being here on Xmas day?! Thanks P. Greenwwod and Gazzawazza, that trick of returning to the "scene of the crime" certainly works. Great! I really did think I was odd in experiencing these lapses. I'll also go with Wildwood; my mind is always leaping about doing flits of multitasking - must be my Gemini nature!

Thanks all, and have a really great Xmas and prosperous New Year.
It always happens when you have really bad hangovers. The other day I got up to do something and immediately forgot, then remembered when I'd sat down but when I got up again I forgot again. This happened three times, for the same thing. I still don't know what it was, but if I do remember I'll tell you.
