NHS Panic
7 Answers
I have had problems with panic for a couple of years now, I went to see my GP about it who put me on to the NHS trust's mental health group. I attended their panic and anxiety workshop and this has helped with certain situations but not for when I am in a situation that I can't get out of like a plane or such. If I go back to my GP can they refer me to an NHS counsellor or hypnotherapist or will I have to fork out serious cash and go to see a shrink out of my own pocket - money is at a premium at the moment! I'd appreciate any responses on this, I need to get better because this is slowly breaking up my life and affecting me in many ways

I could n`t even be in a room with a closed door.I could n`t go shopping etc. I went to see my local health shop & was reccomended Bach`s Rescue Remedy & deep breathing. It was a great help & even now 3/4 years later I still carry a bottle everywhere I go just incase.
I have a mate who suffered for years with panic attacks but now has fully recovered.
You have to try and change your thoughts as its you who are bringing them on. When you feel a panic come on occupy your mind either by talking or do something that can take your mind off the panic.
And you bring the panic on by thinking what ' IF ' this happens or what ' IF ' that happens.
A panic attack has never killed anyone i know the feeling is a horrible feeling but that's all it is a horrible feeling.
I know it's easy for me to say when a panic comes on try and stay and not run away. If you run away you are feeding the panic and making the the sitution worse.

I suffer with panic attacks and sometimes it can be very difficult do do things. I find myself making excuses to avoid places etc... But I do know that i've lived with tem for so long now that I have to accept them and know it's just a part of me, just like if I had a disibility of a different kind, I would have to live with that.
I do use 'Valeriana' it's a herbal remidy that has a tranqualising effect. It calms me right down!
I tried the NHS myself, but they didn'r really know how to help, I think they thought I would grow out of it. I' 26 now and I'm still getting them. If you get any luck, let me know, I could do with the help myself!
