nature or nurture?

Is homosexuality determined at conception or throughout a pregnancy, or is it caused by social or external things after birth, such as an over-bearing mother?! I was having a very frustrating discussion about this at work yesterday!! What do you think?

I think it was illegal to practice homosexual s*x as late as the 1960's wasn't it? And the bible forbade it.
So society has in theory has created more men who stereotypically like shopping, but all it has done is unchained there true feelings.

JTL, I grow weary now, but if as you refer to Darwin, that under evolution that successful reproduction is the key. Homosexuals would cease to exist because their sexual practices are such that they do not produce natural offspring. But they do still exist - even as a sub-species -and are constantly being formed by the very species that presumes they should not, so does this mean the whole Darwinian argument falls apart?
The Greeks did homosexuality much better than the Romans and it was widely accepted as normal for those who were homosexual. In the UK it wasnt until 1290 that it was a punishable offence, burnt alive in fact. I believe Edward I had a similar dislike of Jews.
The ultimate aim of sexuality is reproduction; its proximal aim is pleasure. Much like eating really. And left handedness is definitely maladaptive.

Octavius, I used the exact same argument the other day in a discussion about God or science as the "creator".
If science created us, why has it then produced or created free thinking and religious theology to undermine it? It doesn't make any sense!!!
I do not have the answers, but men who like pink have always been with us (such as the Grecian example you use) and always will be.

B00, lefties are of course deviant abnormal's because I am normal and I am right handed. The worlds funny like that, because everything I do, say and believe and any characteristics that I present are normal, its everyone else that aint right!
Christians can believe that the bible inferred 1 woman and 1 man to be mankind in general, so rather than relate a biblical story that contained a million or so men, and a million or so women all shacked up in a small garden (like BB heaven forbid!) , it was far simpler to tell the story in singular form. So in that respect I agree with JTL that sexuality of any variance has been ever-present. Where we disagree, is in everything else.
