Monthly cycle and instinct

I don't really know where to post this question. In a womans cycle, she normally ovulates around day 14 or 15, depending on the length of her cycle. This means she needs to have sex a day ot 2 before to get pregnant as the egg lives only 24 hours. So why is it that women seem to get horny a week before or during their period. This is when it seems most useless. Also why is it that some months, women don't ovulate at all?

Women are a lot more emotional just before and during their period, and feelings are more intense.

This can increase the sex drive as well all other emotions.

Women may not ovulate for lots of reasons, including general health and hormone levels.

Ethel is right ~ and my take on the reason why women can get more aroused during their period is simple...they think they can't get pregnant!

It stands to reason that 'sensibility' can take over from natural instinct in some cases. Women spend the majority of their time trying not to get pregnant, and although it is possible to conceive during a period, it is very rare.

It has also been suggested that this is one of the reasons why women get aroused more during pregnancy..it may seem silly, but because you are already pregnant their is a more carefree attitude to unprotected sex (as well as hormone changes, of course!)

chick, dont know where your getting your info from but you can get a woman pregnant at any time during the cycle.
and as for being horny its cos your hormones change during that lets say 'period' of time!!!

Tattoo - Chicken is right, ovulation normally occurs around mid cycle. It can happen at anytime in the cycle if you're stressed, ill or on the pill and miss one, etc. You have roughly 3 days before ovulation to have sex or 24 hours after before the egg dies.
