I've been wondering (not something I would do) but if you became pregnant and then found out you were expecting twins, would you be able to abort one if you thought you couldn't afford to bring two children into the world.

No way!
Would you be allowed to do that?
Yes you would. But it would be at the risk of losing the other.

ok didnt mean would you personally. Is it possible to do that and is it different for identical twins
That would be a terrible dilemma to be in. I have heard of cases where there are 4 or 5 babies and the mother is given the option of aborting 2 or 3 to give the others a better chance but it's not a situation I would have liked to have been in.
No I don't know if it is possible - I'm married to an identical twin and they are so close there are definitley 'three people in my marriage' so I would think it would leave the remaining twin with some strange emotional baggage.
Hmmm, i cant believe anyone would even consider it in this day and age. Especially over the fact you feel you wont be able to afford to.
Thats like asking if its right to terminate 'old people' just because the country cant afford to pay their pensions...

sorry I know you were being serious there but terminating old people did make me laugh :-) lol. But yer you're right, surely you would put up for adoption but then which one would you give up
My friend got pregnant through IVF and it was twins.Hubby was furious and made her abort one of them.A few weeks later she mis-carried.So yes,its possible but needs an awful lot of thought.
He 'made' her abort???
Sorry Hau Kola, but WTF???
Presumably, if they went through the difficult process of IVF, it wouldn't be to end up terminating a successful pregnancy??? Made her abort?? what sort of relationship do these people have? I'm absolutely gobsmacked!
hau kola - that is one sick man! iwouldnt have done it, and in fact if all that happened to me he would be my ex husband. what a complete pr! ck, why would yo go all through ivf just to do that?!? madness

I am stunned
I have told my sister that if I am ever pregnant with twins, she gets to pick which one she wants to keep.x
Hi again, perhaps`made her` is a bit strong, but he certainly made his feelings clear, and although she doesn`t talk about it,I feel she went along with it for `an easy life`.He is definately dominant in the marraige. She does everything around the house, sometimes it can be embarrassing eg if we all go round for a BBQ,she waits on him hand and foot,it makes my blood boil, but you know, its strange, but he`s a really likeable bloke,i`ve known him for 38ish years and,to me,he`s a nice bloke. But,in saying that,if I was married to him,i`d have done him in by now.
I cannot believe that your allowed to do that, its shocking.
No. I can't believe it either . In fact........ would be interested to hear how the NHS will allow this. I was lead to believe that multiple birth was a recognised consequense of IVF and that careful consideration was given to, in the event of ' multiple foetus development, the number of permitted terminations would be realistic to the expected number of surviving babies. Find twins situation a little difficult to accept as IVF is so expensive. I can't quite believe that twins would be considered as a termination issue. Unless there was a huge recognised problem with one foetus.
I may be very wrong here.

Katie, you make it sound like a bag of sweeties!
You probably could but im an identical twin and i think that would be unfair!!!
