Animal testing

Ok I might start a bit of a debate here, but stemming from another question on whether collection 2000 is tested on animals, If you found out the make-up you use was tested on animals would it stop you buying it?

In all honesty i think buying any product be it food, make-up or clothes comes down to convienience as well as price etc. For example i dont have a butchers or fresh fish market near me but i do have a Sainsburys, Waitrose, M&S. And more often than not i dont have time to check the back of everything i buy to see what has been used and included in particular products.

I did change my mind on testing for vanity after carrust point if you read above but I dont read every box or bottle I buy, and as I said leather and suede is also for vanity but no-one seems bothered about that, which makes me agree that we are a want want want nation. And I dont have pets, I think its cruel to keep a pet :-) And how do you know how the animals are treated that you eat. Yes it is nicer thinking they were reared nicely but you have no idea what you eat at all. Im sure you dont all buy organic.
I also eat meat, I was a vegetarian for many years but took meat back up, I don't think it makes it worse at all to eat an animal that has enjoyed a good standard of life, in fact I think it's imperative that they have. Surely you don't really believe it would be better for the animals to have lived in cramped, crowded, filthy conditions and then be slaughtered! (Although really I think we should all get back to basics and only eat meat that we have personally hunted down and wrestled to death with our bare hands!)
I won't use cosmetics that have been tested on animals for the simple reason that it is a completely unnecessary cruelty. Regarding testing on animals for pharmaceuticals, if there is another way I think we should use it, however, I will be the first to admit that should I become ill I certainly wouldn't be questioing whether my medication was ethical.

Yer get the spears out tiny :-) You are right It is no better or worse but you dont know half the time how an animal has been treated, look at that chicken programme on ITV lastnight, all too often are these programmes where they have had hidden cameras coming out now. Do all packages say they if they are tested on animals or not?
well 4get, I am fortunate to be in a position where I can know exactly where my meat comes from. If its not from my family farm, I use the local butchers and I can ask where the meat has come from, and my mum will know that farm. I even know the family who provides my milk and I know which slaughterhouse is used. Nat, I don't know about Waitrose but I know Sainsbury's run a very good Farm Assured policy.
Teehee, Im a goody, goody, I buy organic. I am not wealthy and I eat to a tight budget but I do care a lot about the environment and what I am putting in my children.

I think she was calling to champagne nat? SHe posted earlier.
In 2003 the Eu, took steps to ensure animal testing for cosmetics wouldnt continue...because it is wrong!! So from 2009 they wont be sold in this country anyway, no matter where in the world products are produced. There are many, many alternatives which in the long run will cost the consumer a lot less. As for meat, we in this country have I reckon some of the best farming practices in the world. We have had to since CJD and foot and mouth. I would recommend though, if you buy a chicken and se those little darb brown/black spots on it, you shouldnt buy it. That is where the chicken has been kept in a cage and got so fat it has sat in its own pee and the ammonia has burned into its skin. Urghh!

No offence taken Nat. ;o)
4get, I already said that I would stop buying from that producer in an instant.
I'm definitely with Goodsy on this because I've been doing a lot of reading/research into this over the past few years and what it does boil down to is consumer demand combined with consumer ignorance. We say we want want want now now now and then sit back and don't question what goes on behind the scenes in order to meet our demands. Then we get angry or political over issues such as illegal immigrants in the UK or animal testing.
It makes me furious that people cast their views on such issues that actually stem from consumer demand. And a lot of stuff does stem from this.
There is one book that I would have the whole of England read if I could. If only to open peoples eyes to their own undoing.
