rise in young male suicides

there appears to be a rise in young men committing suicide .
this was shown to extreme in northern ireland where 3 young boys have hung themseklves in three weeks.
they come from a small village with only a population of 600.
though on the whole male suicides are on the rise all over the uk.
does society put too much pressure on young kids to succeed or is a lot of it down to peer pressure?
ive read that the boys were all members of a chat site and theres a suspicion theyve done this for a sort of martyrdom.
2 of the lads hung themselves from the same lamppost too.
sad state of affairs.

My brother commited suicide at 16.For him it was because he had mental illness that he couldn't live with. I think you are right legend. Nowadays men feel they have to be so many things,tall,hunky,clever,succesful and it's just so sad.

Hmmm, i think in these cases it looks more like a cult thing.
I think male suicides are on the rise more and more these days because they are being forced into equality with women.
Everywhere they go now, there are women allowed too. There are no more mens clubs or men only areas. These young men need a break so they are with friends. they want to be able to say and act how they want.
Just imagine not being able to get away from a woman nagging, fussing, etc . Its enough to drive anyone to suicide...

I do think however that maybe because women do seem more equal these days it could be that some men feel inadequete and depressed.

As a society I think people are more and more depressed,
men and women...even kids (as reported today)

I wouldnt say insufficient space from women is the problem but maybe the equality has brought up other issues that may not sit too well amongst men in general

I know many men who committed suicide through women.
And i am sure many more people do too. Most of the suicides in this country are the result of affairs, rejection, love, etc.
People commit suicide for different reasons. If they are in a cult then society has no part in the blame.
I know its a sad state of affairs, but i have no sympathy for those that commit suicide. They cause so much hurt and pain to the people around them.
I have seen this first hand, so i believe i have a right to express my opinion...

Ahh, Cazza, Thats because most women have kids etc. and that women are more compassionate than men.
Men dont care, women do.
Its like a guy could go have sex with another girl and think nothing of it. But if a woman was to do that, she tends to have a full blown affair...

the pain of infidelity hurts both ways Mrben, even if it is considered meaningless. Maybe men have poorer coping skills??

All i can say is if you support/have sympathy for people who commit suicide, then you must have the same feeling towards suicide bombers.

I do have sympathy for people who commit suicide especially at a young age, maybe they had problems that were not being addressed?, maybe it could have been prevented?

Cazza, i suppose i have to agree with you. These young people who do commit suicide needed help and probably wouldnt have done so if they had it.
But the older generation who do it, i have no sympathy for...

I dont have sympathy for suicide bombers (especially if they are intent on killing people deliberatly) but most cases are very sad and normally happen as a result of prolonged depression.
