Does anyone else fantasise about throwing their phones, wallets and keys in a lake, and leaving the modern world entirely behind? I want to keep the nice things, like my iPod, my bed, and the ability to cook and clean for myself without resorting to fire and streams. But I want to get rid of all of the rubbish stuff, like work, commuting, banks, British Gas, and the hassle of having to interact with 50 or so people per day, 45 of which I have no desire to start a conversation with.
Is it possible to be entirely self sufficient in Britain, and drop off the grid entirely?

Theres one on the quantocks too. Its like an open house if you turn up there they will feed you. They self school and are self sufficient by means of selling extra produce, bread and meat at local farmers markets. One of the guys at the farmers market does look sppokily like Charles Manson though.
The AB kibbutz commitee is now in session ... now there's a concept.
Along similar lines, have you read in the papers today about the family who've sold their house and all their belongings, and are taking off round the world for two years? Taking their children out of school, everything. It's had me daydreaming all afternoon!! They've bought and converted a bus and all chosen the place they want to go to the most. One child says Australia, another says India etc. Imagine just saying to your kids, "just pick where and we'll go!" Fantastic! They have no idea what they'll be coming back to, but that's the best bit - they don't really care! The mum said "something will turn up."

I want freedom, peace of mind and optimism like that.....I think Mr nutgone would have kittens if I suggested doing something similar though lol
