i used to be out of action for about 5 days a month because of horrendous periods; i'd always throw up, be depressed, in massive pain, get anaemic and sometimes black out. i was diagnosed with something called dismennorea (not sure about spelling) which is just having really heavy periods from hell. it was such fun! i'm now on a highish dose progesterone only pill and don't have them at all (woohoo!) which can happen for about half the women on it. it is also ok to take the normal pill without a break as i was doing that before going on the pop. talk to your gp? as they can give you special anti-inflammatory painkillers called mefanamic acid or naproxin (naproxin's stronger) which really helped and talk about the pill. there may be a doc at your surgery who knows more about this sort of stuff than others. although they will probably refer you to a gynaecolgist to rule out anything really nasty. also they can be worse if you are very overweight (which i was) or have diabetes (which i have). hope this helps. xx
