taking iron tablets with dairy products

One of my service users is taking iron tablets, and we were told not to give it with any dairy products like milk or yoghurt, i have been taking iron for years and i havent heard of that, and it doesnt say on the back of the container not to do this any abers heard anything about this!!!

Hi puddicat
Certain types of foods stops the body absorbing the iron that is required.
Milk, dairy products, brans etc. Usually you avoid taking dairy products two hours before or a couple of hours after the medication has been given.
It is more likely that the person is elderly and does not absorb iron as quickly as a younger person or healthier person.
My friend takes iron tablets and was told by her doc to take them with orange juice.
