I watched a programme yesterday - wasn't paying attention, so no details, but it seemed that a lady who was decended from slaves met a man who was decended from slave traders, and she was crying and all emotional.
Don't know about you, but I would have said something like
"Madam, we are both whom we are by a pure accident of birth, you have nothing to forgive, I have nothing to apologise for. We are complete strangers, unlinked or bonded in any way except history which hapened hundreds of years before we were born.
Please don't cry, or at least not on me, I am utterly unable to assist you with any imagined hurt you seem to think you are feeling.
Goodbye."
I would then walk briskly in the opposite direction.
Enough with this extended guilt/grief trip already!
