throat lump

I have had a lump in a throat for about 7 months and aia went to my GP who said it is nothing to worry about. The lump is painless and like a golf ball in size, but less visible than before.
I am worried about it, but dont know what it is.
could you give me some idea as to what it may be and what I should do?
