Does your council waste money ? stupid question, of course they do, but do they waste as much as where I live, Conwy council in North Wales have spent
10 million on taxi fares in the last five years, the education dept alone spent almost 2 million, this works out at 11 thousand per school day., to put it in perspective, the department of transport, spent, 247 thousand last year, so conwy spent 8 times more than them in one year, is your council this bad ???

This money was on Taxi contracts, casual use was not included

Hi Doc, they do all waste money, and yes you did spell it correctly, beautiful beach at Pen, but not a nice place anymore sorry to say
There used to be a pavillion on the beach.

There were lots of chalets with a gas ring. We always had one, I thought we were posh.

The approach to the promenade was through a tunnel, happy days. I remember a quarry nearby, you could hear the explosions.
It is a constant refrain - I blame the council, I blame the Government. OK, granted, but what would you do that would make people realise how bad the council and Government are, and how well fitted you are to put it all right ?

Hi Ray!
The Lib DEms a few years ago introduced car parking charges in the New Forest and a really good system of a sticker for local people so they could park free which was great. The Conservatives fought a whole election on the fact the Lib Dems had introduced parking charges and they vowed to remove them. As people were a bit upset about the charges they voted Conservative, the Conservatives got in a true and to their promise removed all the parking ticket machines from the car parks at a cost of 40,000.
Well done Conservatives many thought.............until a year late the Conservatives introduced parking charges, put in new parking machines at a cost of 75,000 and introduced a parking clock for local people that cost 8 a year for short stay and 80 a year for long stay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well whiffey therby hangs a tail, one thing I would do is to tighten up on postage, I get jobs sent to me, and I might get 5 jobs 3-4 times per week, and each job is in its own envelope, and quite often the next week another copy comes through the door, so the simple thing there is to put all jobs in out-tray, put them all in one envelope and post, simple really, or e-mail them to me. also cut back on the amount of councillors, a small market town does not need community council and 2 councillors, one could do it eaasily and i no nothing of politics

Hi Helli, that just about sums it up, they should all be accountable for it, and then there is the matter of planning,a lot of problems have arisen on Anglesey because of conflict of interest.
I work for a Parish Council Ray, they are primarily Lib Dem although none of them are very political, Parish Council frequently refuses/passes a local planning application. When it goes up to the District Council who are mainly Conservative they recommend the opposite purely to annoy the opposition it's appalling really.
Even more annoying is on the rare occasions they agree on a planning application the developer can take it to blooming London and they overule Parish District and County Council and pass it!!!
My boss the Parish Clerk is seriously thinking about declaring UDI which is basically declaring ourselves an independant state!!!
A friend of mine bought his council flat for 27000 about three years ago.He recently sold it for 90000.There is a shortage of council houses in this area.I`ll give you one guess who his buyer was.
Hi Ray

I'm afraid to say that I work for the council and worse still in the education department!!

However, I've never taken a taxi and charged it to work and although I can claim travel expenses very rarely do.

I do agree with you about the money wasted. I could certainly tell a few good tales regarding that!

Hi Helli, rasmus and efc, really crazy, party politics, point scoring, and rasmus that is just crazy, efc, if yours is like ours, then it is too many chiefs and not enough indians, cant blame the staff, some of the directives are just lunacy, but council policy says, we do it this way, so we don't do it any other. even if it would save thousands,
