Use either baby oil or a conditioner and apply it direct to wet hair and then comb it through with a nit comb, very effective without the use of poisons!!
I used to be a hairdresser for 12 years and never saw lice in all that time. Then I had my own kids and daughter has had them a few times. RATTER15 has the best idea, but follow with 4 or 5 drops of tea tree oil in a cup of walm water as a final rinse - apparantly they hate it.
I usually give her hair a rinse every week in tea tree even if she hasn't got them - keeps them at bay.
I forgot to say, after using the nit comb, you will need to pul the eggs off the hair. Part it in small sections and if you see an egg pull it down the hair with your nail.or they will hatch in 10 to 14 days.
Oh my god, I am itching now, I hate talking about these things :-(
Hello, my daughter was constantly getting head lice and nothing I tried worked I honestly think they were immune!! Anyway, I tried hedrin about a year ago and I can honestly say she hasnt had them since. Coincidence maybe but Im not complaining.
Lets see how many I come home with when I start work as a teaching assistant in a few weeks time!
If you decide to use the conditioner and comb method, the best comb we've used is a Nitty Gritty. They're expensive (around 10) but they take out eggs as well as the lice. Oh yes, and when our girls get infested, we do the conditioner and comb bit every other day for a fortnight, which usually clears them up completely - as long as they don't do the huggy thing with their friends that is :-)
I hate nits my daughter had them all the time at primary school and the school never did anything. Bring back the nit nurse. Tea tree oil is very good and a really good nit comb. Always a nightmare when the child has long hair, despite whether you tie the childs hair back or not (if it;s a girl) those nits still manage to get in there.
not so much a cure but a prevention, when my daughter had them a few years ago the doctor recommended once i had got rid of them to make sure she always uses hairspray on her hair as it convinces the nits that the hair is dirty and as the nits prefer clean hair they tend to avoid it.
