Following on from my 1973 thread in music, it has become apparent that my use of the words "wireless" for radio and "hit parade" for the charts is old fashioned and way beyond my youthful age.

However, I am aware that I do have personal traits which makes me appear older. The best one, which is a constant joke with some of my friends' children, is I have plain old boiled sweets in the car and not "midget gems" or "Haribo" etc!!!

Also I have a scarf that is not long enough to do the new fancy knot with. I believe it is called a "m-uffler" and is ridiculed by the younger folk I know!!! (I have spelled m-uffler, thus so incase AB Gestapo ban it)

So what do you do which makes people say you are old fashioned? Or if you are already old what did you do when you were younger which made others think you were in fact older?

Wardy I am older than you and I have never used the terms 'Hit Parade' or 'Wireless''.

However I do get on my son's nerves with my repeated use of the word 'Organ' instead of the much more cool 'Keyboard'. I am old fashioned because I still play my vinyl records..the kids are always in awe when I get out my 45's!

BTW, sorry to be off-topic but can you tell me if Mr Bowie's son was named Zowie, Joe and then Duncan..or is Joe his newer name?

His real name is Duncan Jones.

He was affectionately called Zowie Bowie after Marc Bolan called his son Rolan Bolan.

However, Duncan now calls himself Joe (as a nickname)
my idea that to be in a relationship its customary to let the other person know .
e.g. would you like to go out with me .see me regularly . be a couple .
or anything along those lines .

also the idea that women should be a bit less free with their affections.

oh and the messing about with married men or women bit is unpopular nowadays too it seems.
Ahhh..ok, thanks for that Captain :o)
My eldest son always rolls his eyes in disgust whenever I burst into his bedroom shouting "Turn that record player down."
I also have fun winding him up using old fashioned words. When I needed a suitcase recently I sent him up into the loft and asked him to look for the blue portmanteau. He was up there for some time!
Legend..you appear to be a bit obsessed with all that relationship/who does the asking/divorce stuff!
My daughter is unable to explain to me the difference between 'going out with' hanging out with' and 'boyfriend' apparently i always call them boyfriends when infact she is only going out with them!
After years of convincing my mother that the word 'wireless' has not been used for ages to describe the radio they've since introduced wireless networks and wireless internet...Grrr...

I still sometimes refer to old stuff like cassette tapes and mention to youngsters about my 7inch and 12 inch vinyl collection I had when I was younger, much to their snigggerings... ;o)
Oh and another one.

'Getting off' with someone is now something else entirely to what I remember it as...

I don't mind the odd sherry around the festive period! I'm late twenties!
No...I just worry that you may be late in taking your meds ;o)

Seriously..a bit of an obsession, and people may start getting tired of it.

I am not in the mood for nastiness today. I am feeling a little sensitive :o(

Excuse my ignorance here but "getting off" with somebody does mean having a snog in the bustop, yes??

What does it mean nowadays?
i think "getting off with" used to be known as "copping off with".
i think it now means staying for a week .
plenty sex .

breakfast at tescos everyday.

and love love love

or i might be wrong lol
Yes, in my day 'getting off' with someone meant a snog..or sometimes a bit of a fumble.

According to my son it's now the whole deal. Full-on rumpo!

Oh that reminds me. I still say 'having it off'.
pip you sound obsessed.

forgot ur meds ?
Obsessed with having it off? I agree.
no all this talk of sex and the like

shameful

at your age
