I am currently awaiting the arrival of an ambulette to transport mom to a hospice facility. While this is sad, it is the right thing for her and for us. Mom is ready for this step. We are not of course. I have heard that ths facility is like a 5 star hotel and just beautiful. The farflung family will be arriving this weekend.
Thanks for everyone's well wishes and comments.
The hospice programs here are lovely. Does UK have something similar? (I think someone posted before that you do.)

The staff were wonderful, so kind to her and to myself, nothing was too much trouble. Her room was very comfortable with soft lighting and fresh flowers. After she died they kept in touch with me for a while. I gave them a donation out of the bit of money that mum left and would donate again if I could. Your mum will be well looked after, sorry you are having a sad time at the moment. Tell your mum that there are people in England whos thoughts are with her.
yesw but i think they are very much run with charitable donations, we gave all the money from my Dad's funeral donations to St catherine's Hispice and they sent a lovely thank you letter, he died very suddenly and had never been near a hospital for 35 years but the charity is a well known one locally and so we chose that one.
Hello love, first of let me say that my heart is with you as your dear mum takes this step and you reluctantly take it too. We here in my town have a wonderful Hospice where my dear sister was gently and respectfully cared for . We were allowed to sit with her any time of day or night and my last moments holding her hand are very special to me as it was beautifully peaceful.
Your mum will be looked after there and it sounds a lovely place . xxx

Dear EngTeach, I know how you must be feeling, but you are doing the right thing. Your dear Mum will get all the help she needs to make he final journey as comfortable and peaceful as possible. My son Kevin died in St. Luke's Hospice in Plymouth, just three days before his 21st birthday. I honestly don't know how I would have survived this without the wonderful care and compassion we received from the hospice staff. They even asked me to stay for five days after my son's death, as they felt neither they or I were ready or me to leave. Everyone had fallen in love with him and we had a wonderful celebration of his life the day before I went home.
I send you a huge hug of support and strength for the times to come. And for your dear mother my wishes that she is able to go peacefully and as Kevin did... with a final smile on his face, knowing just how much he was and always will be loved. Our thoughts are with you and your family. XXX :o)
