I can't eat....suggestions please!
19 Answers
I've got a stinker of a cold right now, the sort with lots of yukky phlegm. I haven't had any food since Friday and the thought of eating makes be barf. I'm even gagging when I clean my teeth. I'm underweight as it is, and now feel lightheaded & faint.
Can anyone suggest anything I could take? (I am drinking lots of fluids).

custard
yoghurt drinks/probiotics
smoothies
lucozade
slim fast - sounds mad, but they are quite high calorie - you just need to drink lots of them!
milk shakes
hot chocolate made with full fat milk
personally I always really like white buttered toast when I am not feeling well as an introduction to solids.

Aww mrs thats a shame, could you not manage a wee bit scrambled egg on toast? my mum used to give us that saying to 'feed a cold and starve a fever'. You need to get rid of the phlegm first by the sounds of it and, this is not just an old wives tale, chicken soup works on the mucus membranes apparently.
If you dont eat something your body wont have much to fight the cold off with.

Good luck, hope you feel better soon.

Oh you poor soul mrs_overall, when you have one of those phlegm abundant colds you lose your appetite and your sense of taste , no wonder you are feeling rough. If you are already underweight you haven't got much in reserve to draw energy from . Try to drink plenty , as you are , and attempt easy to digest and simple to eat foods , such as soups , and glucose drinks. Have what you fancy , when you fancy it . I hope you feel better real soon :-) x

Mrs. O! You poor thing! You know what they always say - "feed a cold, starve a fever" ! When I was a slip of a lass, my mum always gave me Heinz Tomato soup with home made dumplings, (just like legend) and I felt so much better. You might not get the dumplings but a bowl of hot soup should hit the spot.
