Cattar in the ear

Hi, I was just wondering if any one new a different remedy other than steaming that got rid of cattar in the ear! My boy friend has been to the doctors but they insist steaming is the only way, but it really isn't workin?

Holding your head over a bowl of steaming water is good for catarrh but you need to put something in the water like menthol drops or Olbas Oil which you can get from the chemist .Several camomile tea bags in the water are good too and if you can hold of dried loose camomile flowers even better .
Failing that you need something to dry it up like Sudafed .But I always find that just makes it worse .You need to loosen all the crud !!
Nice hot water ..towel over head to make a tent and deep breathing then blow nose hard and hack it all up ..lol ..
