oral pill/anti biotics

A question for the ladies, what is the usual thing to do when being on anti biotics and finishing the pill to have a 7 day break a couple of days after finishing the anti biotics? Is it go straight on to the next pack and use another method of contraception (if so, how long for)?

i think you have to use condoms while taking the antibiotics and for 7 days after.

Depends on the type of pill. Tat is right about the need alternative methods of contraception during the time you take the antibiotics and for a week after. This is because antibiotics kill the friendly bacteria that our bodies need in order to abosorb female hormone over the gut wall. You should ALSO ensure that you do not have your usual seven day break, but instead go straight onto the next pack of your regular contraceptive. You are unlikely to have a period but this will do you no harm. Some irregularity and spotting may be noticed, but this is nothing to be alarmed about. For reasurance, read your patient infrmation leaflet or visit your local chemist.

Why only seven days? if it is really becauso the bacteria or the lack of them then it's the same thing as simply forgetting to take the pill. and then you would have to use condoms or whatever till right after the next break, or not?

Ok, I asked my girlfriend yesterday and she was sure that once the hormone level drops off in your body you are NOT save till the end of the next break!! And that does not depend on the type of pill you use. In any case i think it's best not to take any risks.

Read the instruction booklet, according to it you need only use extra protection for 7 days afterwards, same as if you miss a pill
