Depressing Work
71 Answers
I need to know if I am just a total wimp or not.
Ive been temping since April as I gave a job up this year due to all the 'youngsters' arguing all the time in the office.
Ive been a month in Social Work child protection which really depressed me, taking minutes in their meetings etc and seeing what a mess some parts of society is in.
Got out of that a week ago, was ill all week with a rotten cold as I hadnt had time off since March.
NOW Im in a new temp job today and its mental health, depressing stuff yet again. I dont think I can stand any more doom and gloom. Its like sad stuff from half 8 till teatime and I cant seem to escape it, its bringing me down.
I need some TLC.

Shame that you do not like your new job.
I have worked for 18 years with mentally handicapped, the elderly, mental health etc. All ages too. I love it most of the time.
Maybe you just need more time to adjust to the job.
It does have it's compensations when you can help people out there and make their lives just a bit better. Can be a bit stressful at times and upsetting but best if you can try to forget about work until the next day Says me! lol Usually worry myself about someone or other when I get home. Maybe it is not the type of job for you weeal. Cheer up lassie.

Hi Cruella, thanks for that.
I think its just that Im temping just now and would never choose that type of work, Im way too soft, and its PA/Secretarial work I do so Im not actually helping anyone, just seeing what goes on in peoples lives that I wouldnt be able to cope with. I think I need to get the agency to pull me out of stuff like that, it is really stressing me. I am more used to engineering and building trade type stuff.
I do really admire people, like yourself, who can do that kind of work and help people in need.

Weeal,
Obviously, this is not the type of work you like, so as you said, why not call the Agency and ask them to transfer you. Tell them it is affecting your health. Think it is worse when you are reading notes on people too. Not really meeting them in real life.
Don't go on with the job. Get out ASAP.
Good Luck! x

hiya beads, yeah I need to give it up. They asked for me especially too as I had done a good job in child protection (its all part of a Council/NHS partnership) and I was reliable, will just have to let them down I think. Will go in tomorrow though and see what the Agency say.
I worry about letting people down then worry about me too!
silly eh
