What to Wear to a Funeral?
17 Answers
Unfortunately I am going to a funeral this week and the late Mrs H has requested that no-one is to wear black as the service is to be one of celebration of life and not mourning. Any ideas what to wear?
I've seen a gorgeous red top in Whistles which I could wear with black trousers and a nice colourful scarf, but is red a bit much for a funeral despite the departed's request........

nope, sounds just right - obviously you'd normally wear something dark but as she specifically requested otherwise, then the cheerier the better. (Black trousers only should be ok, but you could probably get away with something lighter even there.) I suppose she had in mind what you'd wear to a party.
I don't see any problem with what you're thinking of Wotsits ;-) The main thing is that you want to go to the church to celebrate her life. I actually had a really bitchy girl try to discuss with me how she could get over the problem of how not to have her fake tanned legs being ruined by the rain, when the mother of one of our workmates died, and this girl decided to go to the funeral even though she disliked her workmate!!! She was just going to be there for the show !!
I see nothing wrong in your selection. The widow has made a request and its appropriate to honour her request. Interestingly, theres always the veiled line of social acceptability. I celebrated a funeral last month where the family requested that those attending dress for celebrating her husbands life and not mourning.
The service was at our local crematory. Everyone was dressed as I would have imagined; nothing dark, generally what one might describe as professional office attireexcept for one couple. The young man had on jeans and a bright orange t-shirt that had an advert for B&Q on the back. His partner, who somewhat resembled a saveloy with a string tied in the middle, wore a half-length white t-shirt. Emblazoned in large pink letters, trimmed with a diamante Motif was the word sexy,
It just lead me to ponder on what they might have worn to a casual occasion.
Your choice is fine and I know your friend will be grateful for your attendance.
