I'm reasonaby young to have kids in the general public's eye (I'm 18) I've not long moved in with my partner and we are very settled and love each other dearly.
But recently my hormones have been going mad, like I really want a baby.
Now, before you start I know they're not 'little bundles of joy' so to speak. And I know that if I got pregnant or had a baby now I would regret it. So I won't be going off and having one. But I can't help what's going on in my mind, and the fact that I feel like I want a baby.
Has anyone else got or had this? did it go away?

See if you can borrow a baby for a day, preferably one with colic/diahorrea/faddy eating habits. That should put you off the idea for a few years.
Hey Chocolatchip,

At the end of the day this kind of decision will be down to you and your beloved. I had my first child at 19 and no matter what anyone says you will not be prepared, it is a shock to the system when you suddenly realise that you have to protect, love and keep the child alive for some years to come!

I am pleased that I had my children young - relatively - my second was born 7 years later. I am now really enjoying grandchildren which is fantastic.

I wish you good luck with your decision xxx

Thanks for both your answers.
I've spent alot of time with young children and babies, especially in the family, I love them all, crying, screaming or sleepy and smiley. I would also love to be a midwife when I'm older.

And hey banjosister, I would ideally be a reasonably young mum too, ideally about 22. I'm not one, or have never been a party animal, I'd much rather be home, cooking a meal for my partner. And watching a movie. Compared to going out drinking, I get quite scared of being out sometimes, so I'm always cooking and cleaning at home and I have a full-time job too.
Maybe I'm in too much of a hurry to get old?
its your own personal choice and as youve suggested, not one to be taken lightly.

I was always broody from the age of about 18. I was engaged and settled but we decided that it was too much at that age and we waited. sadly we split up when i was 29.

But a couple of years on i met a wonderful guy who felt the same way about children and didnt mind that i wanted kids, we now have a 2 year old and another on the way and Im now 35.

some days i wish i was younger and had more energy but then im also very happy i waited as we are financially settled and also im a lot more patient than i was years ago and Im in a job which allows a lot of flexibility
i fell preg at 19 and had my baby at 20 (not planne) dad p00d his pants and left and i was left on my own with my parents.she is now 3 i have a wonderful man that i have been with since she was 3 months and we have recently baught r 1st house and i wudnt change it for the world....people say its to young lalala wateva....i have neva looked back.yes it was hard work but so rewarding...yess stay together for a while, make sure its the rite decision but dont listen to all the people that say they ruin u if you have them too young...they most certainly dont.

Thanks for your answers.
Redcrx- That's kinda what I want, I don't want to wait till I'm thirty because I feel in myself that I'd be too old. My parents were in their late thirties when they had me, and personally I don't want that for me.
I know that my partner understands, but the problem is, is that I'll be going back to study sometime soon as I left for a while due to stress related issues. I would probably be the breadwinner between the 2 of us, and I don't believe he is ready to be a 'house-husband'.
I would say that if you were sure, you wouldnt be on here asking other people? Not saying that in a mean way at all, just that if you were 100% sure you would go ahead and do it.

There are advantages and disadvantages to being young or old - maybe choose an age between the two!

My husband had his son at 20 - he found it very hard but its lovely now as they are so close. I was 26 when i had my first daughter and we are really close too.

Whatever age you choose I am sure you will be a great mum but really think about it before you go ahead.

Sal x
your choice i guess.
dunno if theres ever a right time
i know of someone been with a guy for 5 years.
getting ready to leave him found out shes pregnant to him.
now shes leavin anyway.
back to parents.
have to give up her job etc.
very sad.
redcrx.............i'm only 4 years older than you and am gonna be a granny in January!!!
I wish i'd left it till later on to have my kids,I was 19 for the first,21 for the second and 29 for the third and last.I coped much better third time around. My 18 year old daughter has followed in my footsteps unfortunately and is heavily pregnant. She will be a great mum though as she is the most maternal teenage girl I have ever known.
congratulations on the impending arrival daffy. I dont think i could cope being a nan at our age. Saying that though, my SIL is 41 and shes got a grandaughter already. It doesnt look right, shes out running marathons and looks younger than me!

everyone copes differently, iknow great teenage mums and those who treat a baby as the latest fashion accessory, as well as older mums who just cant cope with the change in their lives and those older mums who just find it natural.

Swings and roundabouts eh?

Hi sally,
and yes, that's very true. I suppose if there was no money to worry about, or career or mad parents. Then yes, I'd probably have a baby maybe next year at 19/20.
But as I said, so many other things to worry about, and therefore, you can't bring up a child on an unsteady base. So I'll definately wait. It's just the problem that wanting a baby seems to make me quite low. And the feelings won't drop, and it's getting worse, I almost cry everytime I see a baby. How sad?
do what you want what makes you happy
most of them on here hate anyone being happy or having anything you do what feels right for you

good luck
