Give him space for now, we all need it from time to time, at the same time you dont need to completely ignore him... you can be friendly and answer his texts etc every now and then but only if you want to .... you're both taking a little break so its a bit like a holiday .... you can take time out for yourself but it doesnt mean you completely forget about every body around you like they dont exist. That's just selfish and mean and immature. The holiday will have to end at some point so you'll have to get back in touch with them eventually .... it'll be easier to do this if you have continued to be nice. polite and communicative to him throughout the break, or else he may get suspicious and think you're having an affair behind his back and then you'll never get back with him again.

see what I mean ^^^^^^ that's a man's advice for you, absolutely useless and applies to no one but himself. I'm surprised he didnt say something along the lines of ' go to the pub and get pis*ed and go out with the nearest bloke sitting near you'..... since when have you ever seen a man giving adivce as an 'agony uncle' in the newspapers or mags? All I'm saying is that there's a reason for everything.

At 12 months, you should really still be in the honeymoon period. A relationship should always be fun, but as you are still getting to know eachother, time spent should be fun, exciting and still hold an element of surprise.
To be brutally honest, it sounds like he is not as keen as you want. The best advice I can give is dumped him first, save some grace. I know it is easier said than done, especially if you love this guy, but if he has this desire for detachment now, where can the relationship possibly go?
After you dump him, he may come running back like a lovesick schoolboy. If he does great, you will then hold the cards and show him the relationship is worth trying for. If he doesn't, then move on. Have a little cry, cry a bit more then go out and find a decent chap to whom you can build a future with.
Why waste you time with somebody not 100 percent committed?
