You need to get the help of someone else to comb your hair through everyday with a lice comb until your clear the live nits, eggs/shells out of your hair. Keep doing this until all the live lice have gone. You might want to try using lots of conditioner on your hair (the lice find it harder to grip) and tea tree shampoo worked a treat with my little boy. I also put mousse or gel on his hair every morning to ward them off. Have a look at http://www.headlice.org/ or http://www.medinfo.co.uk/conditions/headlice.html
There is an overnight shampoo you can get from any chemist (I think it's about 10) which is really good. You wash your hair with it, but don't rinse it, wrap it in a towel, and then 12 hours later just wash it out. If you do it at night, you can just go to sleep and wash it out in the morning. Then comb your hair to get rid of the dead stuff. It smells pretty vile, but it works and is more reliable than the regular shampoo.
