It can be a form of mild brain damage. I have it, found it hard to catch a ball or jump a skipping rope and I am a china and glass smasher and a tripper over, bumper into things. It does improve with practise but so far as I am concerned it is a part of who I am
poor Proprioception, people not knowing where their body is in relation to anything else, as woofgang says you can improve by training this aspect of your brain function but in the end if your clumsy you'll probably stay that way to some extent...
some people who are particulary clumsy have a condition called dyspraxia which results in poor coordination which may be viewed as clumsy. dyspraxia often goes alongside dyslexia.
