Experiencing problems with Marvelon pill

I was wondering if anyone has had problems with the Marvelon pill. In the past I've tried Ovranette (got breakthrough bleeding) and Cilest (put on loads of weight) and so three weeks ago went on Marvelon. Since then I've suffered terrible mood swings and can't stop bursting into tears. I'm pretty certain it's the pill, so yesterday I decided to stop taking it (I'll obviously go to my GP this week, but just couldn't take the depression any more).

Am I the only one - on the internet most reviews say Marvelon is great. I'm starting to think that the pill just doesn't agree with me and that I'll have to just accept that I can't take it.

Hey Everyone,
I've been on Marvelon for about a year now and it has not been pretty. I originally was on Alesse which was wonderful until I got break through bleeding, I then went to Tri-Cylin low, which made me feel terribly sick constantly, so then I was put onto Marvelon and it has been sheer hell since than. I'm not the same person I used to be, i'm moody all the time, snappy, depressed and down right horrible to be around. I have quite literally no sex drive, and i'm a month away from getting married, it's not a good thing. The only time I feel even remotely like me is during the week that i'm off the pills and on my period. I wasn't sure if it truly was my pills that was causing this, but after reading all the reviews, i'm starting to see that my first gut feeling that this is my pill juts might be right. Thank goodness I have a doctors appointment this week and will hopefully get it fixed.
I started taking Marvelon 4 months ago after have my 6 month old son..In the last couple of months I have totally changed in personalitly. I go into rages , get very tearful and super sensitive and gernerally very short tempered and irritable. I put it down to my hormones not settling down and even saw a doctor who suggested that I have a hormone inbalance. He did not ask about my contraceptive pill though which I found odd. After reading these reviews I am convinced that its all down to my pill. I have not taken the pill for days and will continue to go pill free and see if my mood changes. Keep you posted!!!
Hi

i have been on marvelon for 3 weeks now and it is hell. i have horrible mood swings and cry easily. my boyfriend has noticed it as well and asked what is wrong with me. After reading other people's responses i understand that i am not the only one in this situation. I dont know what to do because swapping to other pills can have its' own side effects as well. I just feel that i can't take it anymore as this might cost me my relationship because i am becoming someone i do not like.

Wow - it's been 18 months since I first posted this question and still the responses still coming! I've now been completely 'pill-free' for all that time since coming off Marvelon and, once again, I'm debating going back on the pill (but is it worth the risk?).

To those who've posted recently, coming off Marvelon was the right thing for me. The side effects cleared up within days. Only downside is having to think about alternative contraception - but I'd rather put up with condoms than complete mood changes and a feeling that I am no longer in control of my body.

Good luck to you all - hope it all works out okay x
I read all your answers with interest. I have been taking Marvelon for only a few days and have experienced horrible nausea (of course this isn't ideal because I need the pill to stay in my system long enough to be absorbed) In the past I have had trouble with Ovranette which caused breakthrough bleeding severe enough to confine me to me bed. I wasn't willing to try another pill to see if it was more suitable, didn't really have the strength after that little episode! I'm 23 now and although my skin was clear all through my teens I have had trouble recently so was given Marvelon for this reason (the contraceptive seemed an added bonus). I'm now very concerned about the mood swings as I'm starting university in the next month and could do without that now! If the nausea isn't enough to stop me taking these I think the fear of depression will. Perhaps I will just have to put up with a bad complexion..?
Hey,

as I was reading your posts, I started crying, cause I suddenly everything made so much sense.. I had the same symptoms... and my creepy mood and inpatient leaded to that I split up with my boyfriend...
As soon as I started taking the pill, I could burst into tears all day long.. for no reason. Just one example, I cried like hell, cause I accidently took the wrong bus!!!
And I started questioning everything and didn't trust my boyfriend anymore. Unfortunately at the same time he got a lot problems at work and instead of being supportive, I was freaking out more and more.

I stopped taking the pill now and I'm so much more relaxed and just be myself again. Whereas in the 2 weeks I took it, I was impatient, negative, horrible moody and needed so much reassurance which my boyfriend couldn’t give me at that time. So, I hope that we can fix our relationship again and that this pill didn’t ruin it. For sure it wasn’t caused only by the pill but the whole circumstances leaded to terrible arguments and we have to see if we can get over this.

What I learnt from that: a pill can definitely change your personality and with the next pill I’ll have definitely a more close look on myself. I never had problems before and still think the pill it’s a good contraception.. but there can be pill that aren’t good for yourself and influence your life... so please pass this on and make all your friends clear that it’s not like trying a new sort of tea... it’s affecting our hormones and this is basically us!!
I have been on Marvelon for 3 weeks now after being on Yasmin for 3 months and then previously on Dianette for 2 and a half years. Diannette made me feel very, very low and didn't really do anything for my skin and PCOS (the reason I was taking it), Yasmin was a total nightmare and made me into a weeping psycho. So, my gyno changed me to Marvelon and at the beginning it didn't make me feel insane so I was really hopeful it would work out on this pill. However......, in the last few days I have been a total and utter wreck. I have been crying non-stop, crying to bird song, crying if someone asks me how I am, crying to Abba......you name it. And it is exhausting!! Reading these reviews and the experiences of other women has made me realise that this pill is not for me and is ruining my life. I don't want to go out, socialise with anyone, I have become a total recluse.

My dr wanted to put me on anti-depressants which I have really been considering as the situation has been unbearable but having read these reviews I think I will try taking myself off Marvelon first and then seeing how I feel! I am hopeful that things will improve for me as it did for other women who had similar problems - will keep you posted!
Wow ladies, I thought I was just using hormones as an excuse to feel depressed all the time! I have PCOS, therefore acne, so I used Alesse (Loette) for a while, and it did help my skin. Problem is that I went back home, (they don't have it in my country, or my doctor was being stubborn...I don't know), and they gave me Diane (Ginette), which was really great with the skin, but it wasn't so great for controlling my heavy bleeding, it was affecting my moods, and I read a lot about it being so risky, so I left it.

So last week I started on Marvelon (I take it at night), every second night I've been feeling so depressed and crying about stuff that happened years ago that I feel bad about now, etc etc! I really can't find a reason to be depressed as I'm going back home to my loved ones for 6 weeks, and I've been waiting for it the entire semester! Yet I just don't have my excitement anymore, and my bubbly self is slowly ebbing away :(

I don't know if I should just give it a while, maybe after my body gets used to it, things will settle?
Urgh it's so frustrating!
I have problem with Marvelon but different that you have, maybe you can help me or give your opinion.

I took marvelon and finished my first pack right now im in my second pack but my problem is i did'nt pay attention about 7days free break, cause after i finished the 21pills i go straight away to the second pack which mean i didnt stop for 7days,any no my period was delayed already im worried even though i know i never missed taking my pills,i took it everyday as it says in the foil the only thing i didnt do is 7days free break.

do you have any idea about this?do you think im pregnant!!! huh i wish not.

an advice would really really help my worries

Thanks

My 17 year old daughter is 3/4 way through her second pack of Marvelon. She has also been bursting into tears, mood swings etc. I'm reluctant to blame it on the pill since it's her senior year in high school and she is an ellite athlete who is overwhelmed, wondering about her future in her sport. I am starting to wonder, though whether this pill is contributing.
My 17 year old daughter is 3/4 way through her second pack of Marvelon. She has been experiencing mood swings and has been bursting into tears regularly. She is generally quite sad I find. She is also in her senior year in high school, however, and is a high level athlete so I'm wondering if it's the pill or the situation. She has been prone to mood swings in the past but I just find it more exaggerated and I'm wondering if it's the marvelon
Wow,now I'm really starting to think that it's the Marvelon which has taken the spark out of my 17 year old daughter's personality. She is crying almost daily and doesn't know why. She feels sad much of the time. Really scary....I wonder if it's the marvelon
Oh dear me I have had very similar problems. Have been on Marvelon for about 4 months and noticed almost immediately that I became tired to the point of exhaustion. Most days I can't get through the day without a nap. Some days I do not want to get out of bed. However, I have been sleeping terribly! Waking up multiple times in the night and having night sweats. Another thing I noticed was that, although I'm an experienced runner and run about 5 times a week, I suddenly started struggling with my running! Short distances were really draining me and I needed to take breaks. Started to panic that there was something really wrong with me so went to my GP who ran blood tests to check my iron levels, thyroid etc. and all came back fine. Also I have been VERY glum. Normally, I'm a really positive, energetic person who loves life and always sees the good in every situation (I pride myself on it) but all of a sudden everything in my life seemed to be going wrong and I couldn't find the drive to put effort into anything! I lost my sex drive which is normally quite high too. Noticed recently that on my 7 day break my symptoms lessened quite substantially and I felt less tired and downtrodden. The tiredness has been unbelievable. I almost dozed off while driving once! I was waking every morning feeling like I'd run a marathon: aching and drained. Can't say for 100% that Marvelon has caused all of this obviously, but it seems like all the symptoms started at about the same time as I started taking it. I was going to come off it after my break but unfortunately didn't realise I'd need to take the next packet to be protected on my break so I'm on it for another month. Like some of you I've been on multiple pills in the past and none have worked; they always affect my mood and temper. Luckily my boyfriend is understanding as I don't fancy the implant or injection, even though my GP has tried to push them on me. I wish you all the best of luck in finding something that suits you!
We need to get off these pills. I was on dinette for six months which was great for me, my moods and my skin and lighter periods- but they wouldn't let me have it anymore cos of the risk of blood clots so they gave me marvel on, now I am sad all the time, depressed, cry and cry, feel confused about my life and have lost my confidence. Also I am having breakouts of spots on my chin like I haven't had since been a teen (I'm 32) . I am not gonna take anymore of them after reading all your posts and putting two and tow together, but it's astonishing that we are being drugged like this.
Hello Lovely Ladies,
I was depressed for over two years - a lot of changes and difficult things happened in my life. I gave up anitdepressants in September last years (09/2011) - i met a lovely guy :)). On top of my depression I have hyper active thyroid which was making me very anxious but I guess its been getting better. I actually dont rememebr when I started taking marvelon but it could be a year now and its been a hellish year for my mental health. I've been struggling the last few months but the last two months were better and I was getting happier. Two weeks ago something suddenly changed and I'm so so moody, one minute I'm ok two minutes later I'm in despair,I even tried to break up with my boyfriend yesterday. I also have terrible cramps I take supplements to stop it but it doesnt help. Do you think it could be marvelon on top of my other problems that makes me so negative, miserable, mad, making me upset for an absolutely insignificant reason. I'm not myself and not confident anymore and i expereince a lot of fear over basically nothing. Or is it my depression coming back I'm so so confused. yes, confusion is another symptom. I feel that I want to give marvelon up today in the middle of the month. Its been so difficult for me for so many months. I'm grateful for any responses. I'm already feeling better thinking that i may finally pin down why I am feeling this way. Thanks everyone :)
I am in similar situation like most of you here, I started taking marvelon in Janurary 2012 and OMG past 3 months have been health nightmare for me. I am a Masters student and this pill have ruined my motivation, my drive, my intellect. I have lost my charm, my personality, my positive outlook towards life and above all else my health. Since end of January I have been suffering from terrible tummy pain on my right side. Been to ER numerous times, ended up getting suspected for kidney related pain as the pain is mostly in my right side abdominal area and lower back. After being tested for everything possible, my family doctor including my sister who is an endocrinologist started to suspect that this pain is most probably stress induced. They put me on anti-anxiety pills and guess what I was told that its all in my head!!! but I am sure its not in my head, its in the pill. I tried coming off this pill in past few days but my drive to get a clear skin kept me going. The worse part is even after suffering through depression, extreme weightloss (lost 10 lbs in 3 months) and nausea and pain I dont even have a clear skin.

i have realized that my pain is due to the pill and i am sick of visiting doctors. i have completely lost faith in medical profession...even though abdominal pain, nausea, weightloss and depression are clearly stated as side effects NONE OF THE 10 doctors including a trained endocrinologist suggested even once that it might be the pill!

If anyone else also have experience abdominal pain from this pill please do reply, it will really encourage me and make me feel better....

I am very unhappy about 'Marvelon' and pretty much about all the others birth controls pills.
In my country doctors won't prescribe you any birth control pills without prior hormonal and blood tests. However in the UK it is like a lottery, where doctors give you any birth control pills and then you playing a waiting game.

I have been on microgynon for 3 months and I had all the possible side effects I could get, maybe I am exaggeration of course. But I was very teary, always stressed and angry, pretty much destroyed my relationships with my boyfriend. So we decided that I shall stop taking them.
However after a few months I decided to try some other pills in hope that they will be different this time. I went to doctors and had a really long chat and they decided that the best option for me would be 'Marvelon'. First month went absolutely alright, so I had my hopes up I thought yes, this is the pill I need to be on. But after a week of using it the second months, I went absolutely crazy. I got really upset over nothing, paranoid, jealous, very teary all the time, argued for a little reason and became very suicidal. Even tried to, because I couldn't take the depression any more. I stopped them after a long chat with my boyfriend a couple of days ago and still feeling the side effects.

Not sure If I am ever going to try any other pills after feeling so down.
I've been taking marvelon for over two years now and i've been dealing with depression and mood swings but it never occurred to me that it might be the pill. I'm also never in the mood to have sex and this is causing problems in my relationship, the only times i usually really want sex is when i';m not on the pill (my period), is it possible that the pill could be killing my sex drive?
If you have simething called Candida Albicans, then many meds can act also as a Can Ald killer. CA is a fungal that grows in everyones gut. When I was taking anti depressants I had the same thing, I used to cry.....if you keep on taking it it will settle down in most cases. HOWEVER...there are a lot of problems with Marvelon...one being massive weight gain and increasing breast siye one friend of mine went from a 36B to a 40 DD. Better not to take this medicine...do your research BEFORE you go on any meds, and then ask the doc for one you agree to. My friend is currently suing the makers of Marvelon for her medial problems associated with breast enlargement. One meds I was on said in the small print....SUDDEN DEATH!!!! I came straight off them. We need to wake u to big pharma....many of these drugs are let ose on us without proper tests. And sometimes they lie about how safe these pills are. Hope you get on ok. Mx
