When did you 'get it?'

I am 43 and can honestly say that I was probably in my mid 30's before I 'got it!'
By this I mean learning about life, how people think and react, making wise choices and just generally being 'whole,'
As I see young girls in their 20's at work being complete numbskulls, being ridiculously impulsive and thinking they know it all, when they don't even know what they don't know, it makes me glad to be my age, although I would like to be younger and 'know what I know now!'
My husband on the other hand, reckons that he 'got it' when he was about 25, as he has always been quite wise.
How old were you? Or have you no idea what I'm on about? (if you are young!)

I'm aware there's astill a lot I don't know but I've learn a fair bit too.

I lke what I know now, but I hope to find out more.... preferably with a little time to make some more impulsive, bad judgements tho, they're much more fun the older I get ;0)

Oh... I'm 29.
And you don't think that in 20 years time you won't look back and say "I thought I'd 'got it' 20 years ago" and I was so sensible and right and not making silly decisions and getting in to trouble - but now I wish I'd been more daring and done all those mad things 20 years ago when I could?

I don't think there's an "it" to get, you're different people at different stages of your life, what's right for you at 20 may not be what's right for you at 40 or 60.

I'm 43 too as it happens and I used to do a few daft dangerous, impulsive things when I was 20 - but I don't regret them
I will be 32 this year, and I think I am just starting to get it. Over the last 6 months or so, I have realized that i might need to start being a bit more "grown up" about things, because I still feel young I think I can sometimes be a bit silly, But on the other hand, I like to have a laugh.... if that makes sense?? I know what you mean about the way people think and react, I have become more aware of that recently. I still feel there is loads to learn but I suppose that is all a part of growing up??
It all clicked into place for me last year when i was 25, it is nice knowing your own mind, what you want and where you want to go even though i may not get taken as serious as an older woman would who has "got it".

I am 42 - yes I know I don't look it - but then neither do you! ;-)

I think I have only just got it. But then I am now more wary and would have trouble going in to another relationship, but then that means I am not "getting it!". So perhaps I was better of getting it when I didn't get it????!!
Hi - I know what you mean - I think I got it at 25 but didnt realise till I was 35 which is when I did something about it :-)

I was taught in the "school of hard knocks and the university of life" as quoted in a very famous comedy. I think thats the quote anyway. Someone correct me if I am wrong please.

I am still learning now.
I'm 39 and I think it's just coming to me now...

j-t-p - I definitely wont look back and wish I'd have been more daring because I was very daring and fulfilled in my twentys and believe me I am very glad to be in the place I am now, it's actually so much more liberating! I don't regret much either. Maybe working harder to attain better qualifications and making more informed career choices but I really didn't get it at that school/college phase of my life unfortunately!
Wildchild- You can still be grown up and fun - It's not an either/or situation! Are you as wild as your name suggests?
Mr bean - Some people are just prats all their life - that's a fact!
If you don't regret the daring things you did in your 20's I'm having difficulty seeing why you begrudge "young girls in their 20s being numbskulls being ridiculously impulsive".

I guess in the end not regreting the things in that we've done in our past is as close to winning as life gets
You continue to learn about life until you die.
I'm 47 and am continually learning about people.

I wouldn't know I'd 'got it' even if 'it' sat on my face and wiggled
I am 56 and have 'had it ' since early 40s, i am confident and comfortable with myself and no longer worry about what other people think of me .

I think druigaghtage ( what does that mean?) has embraced the nature of my question entirely!
JTP - Not regretting the things I did in my 20's, doesn't mean I begrudge young girls being daft! I certainly cringe at things I did and said and as I look back, I would know how to handle situations differently, much differently ... but regret, no, not really ...well maybe the odd thing!
Like you I think I was in my thirties before I 'got it', but I am still learning! But on the other hand my husband (who I met when I was 22) says I was always 'sorted'! Life is just one big learning curve itsn't it?!!
