I have started to go the gym regularly, is it better for me to use the CV equipment early to raise my metabolism for the day or later to burn up the fat/calories consumed in that day?

I was told by an instructor it is best to go later on. I'm pretty sure they said about an hour or two after your evening meal as your metabolism is a lot slower at night time so going to the gym later on really helps.
alternatively if you had a light breakfast and then went and did a cardio work out you would have less redily available energy from food ect. so your body would utilise more fat stores. there really isn't an answer as its all just swings and round abouts just conduct a well structured exercise program and be happy that your doing something ... anything!
Iggy has got the rite idea. Make sure that when performing cv work that the intensity you perform it at is moderate but for greater durations (20mins plus)This is because fats are a more complex molecule that need to be broken down(combusted) via a a longer energy pathway. For this combustion to occur, there needs to be a abundance of O2 supplied. If the performer is performing at to high an intensty then the O2 is needed else where and at a faster rate. i hope this helps and isnt confusing. (oh yeh, i wouldn't worry to much about the time just get enough cv in)
