i really would like to gain weight and have tried numerous ways to do so without any success , has anyone any tips or suggestions,i'd be really grateful.

try to go the gym regularily, work out a lot. there are a few protein shakes out there that will definatley help you. also EAT like a champion at least 6 meals a day
lets see, how much weight do you want to put on and how fast, if its a lot and quickly, then snack on mars bars twixes sweets but have big healthy meals, something like fish and chips or something beefy. i managed to put on 5 pounds in 2 days despite cycling 30 miles in one of them.
When i was serious about weight training and at times needed to bulk up i used to eat a loaf of bread,12 eggs,potatoes and weight gain powder with 1/2 a pint of double cream,this was per day for a week.I'm sure were going to get the health brigade in their droves telling you about colestral,heart disease, but essentially you need a high carb intake which is hard to digest.

I know this might sound strange, but I used slimfast milkshakes. They are supposed to represent a meal, so I just had a couple a day, in addition to my normal meals. There's one called Nutrament too, which is a proper build-up type shake. Don't go too mad though. You don't say why you are underweight but you should check with your doctor if you haven't already. Good luck!
Same as elfin said but i used to drink the "build up" shakes, they do have other products too.Try eating more on your meal than normal, an extra potatoe or pasta and rice. Eating before bedtime isn't good but it does help put on weight if you wanted to.
