I thought it was only woman who got "bladder" infections? If a man has a urinary tract infection is it contagious and able to be passed on through sexual contact?

Sometimes called Non-specific urethritis (NSU), it can be passed on. Treatment is normally a short course of antibiotics

OK - so you'll probably NOT believe me but this question isn't for me or even about me...

I am asking on behalf of someone... ("yeah right" i hear you all chorus) .

If it is NSU is it ONLY transmitted sexually?

If it is only through sexual contact then why don't men get bladder infections like woman do, (ie cystitus etc). Is it cos their urethra is longer?
Evedawn,

I'm a nurse. Men can get UTI's in the same way that women do. They are less common (but not uncommon) in men because - as guessed correctly - the man's urethra is much longer so bacteria are less likely to reach the bladder. I often treat men in hospital who have a urinary tract infection. Most are NOT sexually transmitted!!!!!
Hope this helps!
For the record, not drinking enough fluid can lead to a UTI as the urine stagnates in the bladder which can lead to infection. Handling his 'manhood' with dirty hands can transmit bacteria. There are lots of innocent reasons for men to get a UTI. I'm guessing you have a friend who thinks her man has been unfaithful??? Well, unless she has good reason to think he has been, I wouldn't say that a UTI is good evidence!
