Luckyman,

I am sorry to hear about your heartburn problems.

Please go to your doctor and ask for: OMEPRAZOLE CAPSULES.

You take one tablet in the morning. After that, the heartburn is gone.

Good luck.
I would suggest that you see your GP, these could be symptoms of a hiatus hernia but you would need to have it checked out.
Sorry to hear about your heartburn luckyman. It can be really unpleasant, but if you get it frequently (more than 2 or 3 times a week), it can be a sign of Gerd disease. Most frequent attacks are caused by diet, as heartburn's caused by the digestive juices coming back up through the sphincter at the top of your stomach, so you should steet clear of caffeine, citrus fruits and spicy food. Taking medication all the time can also cause the veryu thing you're trying to stop, so I'd have another word with your doctor. Hope all goes well.
I used to suffer really badly at one time luckyman. I was being sick virtually everyday, with my stomach just having spasms. Gaviscon didnt work for me either, i used to just throw that up.

I went on tablets and whilst i was talking them things were great! As soon as i came off them though it started up again.

I now put mine all down to stress because i was in a stressful situation, that changed and my acid /heartburn calmed down to the extent that if i have it slightly once a month then thats it. I can control that now with a glug of milk cause its so mild. Amazing considering what i was like.

I found bread and pastry were the worst things for triggering it off.
Go see your GP about what they can do for you. I also had a test done for the helicobactor (sp) bug which is in the stomach and causes excess stonach acid. Its fairly common so it could be that which is cleared up easily with anti biotics. Its a simple test you do yourself at home.It could also be a hernia or an ulcer so best let the experts see ya and take it from there.
Good luck, i know how much it affected my quality of life at one time.
ranitadine can be bought from your supermarket. it works the same as omeprazole that new seeker mentioned.

ask your gp to be tested for helicobacta pylori. it's a natural bacteria in your gut but can cause heartburn, stomach pains and ulcers. there is treatment for this!!!
Years ago my next door neighbour had this problem, he was a builder, aged 42, and built like a brick sh!thouse, then one morning he collapsed and died sitting at the breakfast table infront of his wife and kids of a heart attack

I`m not saying this`ll be you next but go to the docs and have it checked out

I also take Omeprazole. I hadn't actually had any symptoms other than a feeling of something being stuck in my throat. After investigations it was discoverd I have Gastro Oesphageal Reflux Disease(GORD) Due to the anti inflammatory tablets(Diclofenac) I take for Post Thoracotomy Pain.I now take one tablet daily and the feeling of somthing in my throat has completely gone.
Luckyman,

Every now and again I get nasty stomach pains which occur in the upper part of my stomach. I have to take Omeprazole as soon as I feel it coming. If I don't I will suffer til 4 or 5 in the morning. I also feel nauseous and it sometimes makes me vomit. I have been diagnosed with having a gastric ulcer. It usually occurs when I'm stressed. Antacids and gaviscon are useless once the ulcer has flared up. They have to be taken as soon as I feel the symptoms.

I think I might go back to my GP though as from what IAP says it could be Hiatus Hernia.

Hope you get it sorted soon. x
Go to your doctors and ask him for some pantoprazole tablets.

I used to suffer from it really badly and nothing seemed to work.

But take a course of these and it is like a miracle cure.
I was prescribed as above, but couldn't take it due to my IBD. As a result I have just about managed to cure myself without taking any drugs. I have removed all processed food and sugar from my diet. I eat smaller meals and I eat slowly. As soon as I am remotely full I stop eating- ie- I never eat til I am stuffed! Occasionally when I am rushing around at work and hence, stressed, I can get a little bit of heartburn, but I take a Gaviscon tablet and sit quietly, and it goes away. Stress and bad diet are no doubt, causes of this. Just so you know, it is possible to prevent it without the use of drugs.
My partner suffered for years, every single day after every single meal. When I finally got him to the doctor, he was prescribed Omeprazole and - as New Seeker says - the problem is completely rectified. If it is just indigestion, then it's a simple solution, but if the tablets don't work, then it could be a sign of other things that the doctor will be able to send you for tests to isolate. Don't worry though, the first thing he will probably try are the tablets and if they work, sorted. You just get it on repeat prescription and take one a day. Once it's in your system, if you're not having food that is liable to give you indigestion, you can sometimes even skip odd days, etc.
