Cremation or Burial ?

Whats your choice and why?
Also can i ask if you would have a Minister/Priest oficiating even although you dont practice?

I'll go first -Cremation -I shall be sensitive for obvious reasons. I want my ashes buried with a headstone so my family can 'visit' me.I will not go into the details of my reasons as they may upset.

I am wanting an upbeat Humanist send off with hopefully some of my family reading poems (W.H Auden) and maybe a few wee tales and then some of my favourite music foillowed by a knees up with a live band at my expense -now that is a way to go !!!

Can you tell i am re-writing my will ATM -lol

Hehe.... I have already planned mine (which hopefully won't be for a while yet)...

1 - All my bits and bobs are donated to medical research, so I get cremation (no way do I want to feed them worms lol)

2 - No way am I having a religious service, the Humanists have been ordered.

3 - Music - already sorted (Oysterband, Brahms and Paul Simon), plus there is a large amount of dosh for the final party woot !

4 - Possessions - My last will and testament has been written and stored with Solicitory fella and my sweetie niece gets the fun job of sorting it all out.

5 - Death is one of life's few certainties... at you say Drisgal, it comes to us all, so you are doing the right thing there.

I am having a woodland burial,the coffin will be eco-friendly and there will be a tree planted in my memory.I'm not having a vicar/priest or any sort of religious ceremony.

Cremation for me.

2 reasons.

I can't stand the thought of the worms getting my eyeballs.

I don't want my coffin being moved in a hundred or so years time, to make way for a housing estate.

Actually 3 reasons.

Cemeteries are such awful places, that I don't want to be put in one.

As regards a service, I suppose if it makes the living happy, they can have one. Thank God I won't have to attend - I am not religious and I hate them.

This is a direct quote from my will:
"I desire that my body be cremated without ceremony and that my ashes be disposed of, also without ceremony, in any convenient refuse receptacle".

cremation for me, i hate the thought of being buried.

I've always told my family i don't mind a religious cermony the only problem i have is that i don't want a priest who didn't even know me to conduct the cermony. I would much rather it was someone who knew me, and what i was really like in life to conduct it.

Im going for medical research and I want a spiritual service with everyone wearing something yellow or lemon. My fave colour.

I want to be cremated. But for what seems like a pretty silly reason, one of my biggest fears is being buried alive so I'd rather wake up burning than wake up in a coffin and suffocate!! I'd like my ashes buried, so my family and friends can visit.

I'm not religious but would like a service in which people can talk. I don't want any poems or hymes sung tho. And I have my songs chosen, which my family know about. I also don't want any flowers, I'd rather they donated money to charity. And I'd like a good old booze up after.
Considering I'm only young, I have thought about it a lot. Hopefully I have a while yet - x

Oh yeah, I'm ok with donating organs too. They just can't have my eyes!! Thats too weird, and they welcome to my heart, as long as they can find it lol - x

My parents and my sister are buried in the prettiest,most peaceful cemetary.....it is wooded with winding pathways,and the graves are in small groupings-of only6-10 graves. It is also hilly-overlooking Long Island Sound In NY State.....there is a pretty old white,weather-boarded church on the edge of it...all-in -all a very serene 'resting place'....that is where I would like to sleep.

My brother 's sight was saved by having 2 cornea transplants...so having my eyes removed would not bother me

misty i felt the same regarding my eyes i just didn't like the thought of someone touching them or taking them out, until i realised that it can help someone to see.

I know, but it just freaks me out a bit. I guess once I'm gone tho it wont make too much difference to me whether I have them or not. I'm still not sure - x

My answer is 3fold and its cremation:

1) Don't want to run the risk of being buried alive.
2) I don't want my body to take up space in a cemetery.
3) I have a phobia of worms ( I know I'll be dead but the thought of it makes me sick).

I've already quoted from my will but perhaps I could point out that there's an alternative to both cremation and burial.

The artist Gunther von Hagens welcomes body donations for his artworks (which I think are absolutely stunning). I've already got the hat, so it seems like quite a good idea to me ;-)
