Louisa's right about the clove oil, which can actually be mixed with something to form a paste which makes a temporary filling, but obviously, your best bet's to see a dentist. Hope you soon feel better - xxx

One of the reasons being that for instance with headaches there maybe a reversible cause for the pain which your natural defence system or physiology can cope with.
However generaly speaking diseases/pathology of the dentofacial area do not reverse without intervention.
For instance whilst a tooth has a living component it has a very poor healing ability and tyhe outer enamel is a dead tissue and cannot heal. Therefore any trauma or dental disease will usually require dental treatment.
Painkillers will only palliate the symptoms, usually ineffectively.
Clove oild is recommended by many but is of limited value depending on the cause of dental pain and its main action would most likley arise largely from the placebo effect.
Simple rule of thumb pain in the orofacial region = visit to the dentist
