Itch, Scratch, Itch, Scratch - HELP!!

My son has bought nits home from school and I just can't get rid of them - I've tried all the chemist nit treatments and combing for several weeks but they just won't go away. My daughters hair is full of eggs and I've tried and tried to comb them out but they just won't shift - please help!!!!

Headlice are becomming immune to all the chemical treatments. When my son had them I was told to wash his hair and use loads and loads of conditioner, and, as you are already doing, a good nit comb oce or twice a day. Apparently the nits find it almost impossible to cling on to over slippery hair. It did work.

I haven't used the treatment or the repellent, but a friend has used them and says they are the best products she has used & they deliver the next day. In the meantime, have you tried tea-tree? You can buy tea tree shampoo and conditioner. In my experience, combing is the only foolproof method of getting rid of the little *******! Don't worry, they'll go in the end, and you can get back to looking at your children without studying their hair for signs of life.

Mt granddaughter is mixed race and when she has her hair in braids she tends to get nits. Obviously combing is not as effective on very curly hair .The only thing that gets rid of them is tea tree oil. The oil is put into everything that goes on her hair. It only takes a day or so and you can see the little blighters gasping their last on the scalp.

Use a Derbac comb, it's very effective(has been on my kids). Once all the nits/eggs are gone there are several shampoos that can be used as well. Once you're sure they're eradicated use tea tree shampoo(it's a tad expensive but worth it) which is the best non-chemical shampoo for keeping them at bay.

nitty gritty is great, its aromatherapy oils -smells good and is effective. you should comb every other night for two weeks to catch all the eggs and can use the nitty gritty (or .oil combination made up by aromatherapist - have you a 'Neal's yard' near you or similar health food shop?) to dab behind ears and along hair line in between treatments to prevent reinfestation arghh - i've started itching...

Hello nickymitch, I have also found tea tree shampoo, conditioner and nit comb to be the best treatment. Can I just say that if it goes in your childs eyes, it will sting more than ordinary shampoo. It won't do them any harm, it is just stronger than most.
