encephalitis

Can one recover from encephalitis.. my sister has been in the hospital for the last 2 days with this. she can not speak or know whats going on??

Very sorry to hear that.

It really depends on the individual case. Nerve cells may become damaged or destroyed by the viral infection, the immune reaction and by pressure resulting from the inflammation.

Some loss of brain function is therefore a probable outcome of encephalitis. In some cases, however, this loss occurs on a relatively small scale resulting in very minor impairment, such as some loss in speed of thinking. In other cases damage can be extensive leading to significant impairments.

Try speaking to someone at the ES for advice and support.

my niece had it at the age of 8months as a complication of chickenpox, she went on to make a full recovery. I am sure once your sister responds to her treatment she will too. Take carexxx
