This is NOT morbid.
I have to revise my will on Tuesday.
I dont want the people left behind with the arduous task of having to second guess what I would have liked played or said at my funeral.
I am struggling as i dont want a religious send-off -I want a celebration of what had been my life with the people who cared for me.
Dilemna is the music.
My swansong -which is Sweet Caroline (I know -lol) but it would make people smile -appropriate?
Last request -Paulo Nuttini -lyrics are brill -but when I am off to the kiln do I want people to lay down beside me?
Would like a nice poem -but not the usual W.H Auden one -which I love -so what ?
Bay City Rollers - Shang a Lang --again -appropriate?
I am struggling ATM -any suggestions or what would you have?

I want Elvis' Way Down. :) And Spirit in the Sky. And Kool and the Gang's Celebration
Poems are personal but I like this:
Remember me when I am gone away,
gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
nor I half turn to go, yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
you tell me of the future that you planned;
Only remember me; you understand
it will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet, if you should forget me for a while
and afterwards, remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
a vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
better by far you should forget and smile
than that you should remember and be sad.

Oops Ethel -I just picked that for my last journey into the kiln -hoping that people would be laughing instead of listening to the lyrics lol
I have picked this poem to pre -amble my last journey and of course the Bay City Rollers -its quite apt :
Play Jolly Music at My Funeral by Richard Greene
Ive taken in recent years to thinking about my funeral
and have decided to make one paramount request:
play jolly music at that ritual.
What good does it do to heap on dirges
or other mournful melodies?
I wont be there to be gratified by the grieving
and if I could tune in
Id be happier to see those present have some relief.
Dixieland would be nice.
Joplin would be fine.
Something by Fats Waller would certainly do.
Those early jazzmen knew what they were up to
when they set about making funeral marches swing.
So swing me away, please, with a rousing tune.
Its not a pleasant task but I would rather prepare my own funeral and make it personal rather than the ones left behind floundering.
Work still in progress -have to get it done and dusted -lol

Found it......
Death is nothing at all
Death is nothing at all.
I have only slipped away into the next room.
I am I and you are you,
whatever we were to each other, that we still are.
Call me by my old familiar name,
Speak to me in the easy way which you always used.
Put no difference in your tone,
wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow,
laugh as we always laughed
at the little jokes we enjoyed together.
Pray smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word
that it always was.
Let it be spoken without effort,
without the trace of a shadow in it.
Life means all that it ever meant,
it is the same as it ever was.
There is unbroken continuity,
why should I be out of mind
because I am out of sight?
I am waiting for you
somewhere very near
just around the corner.
All is well.

Aww Ethel I am howling with laughter -that is brill -I am spoilt with choice now.
I didnt think I would have such a laugh planning my own funeral -but it happens to us all and I am sick of going to morbid ones -I want mine to be a fine line between the Bay City Rollers and Neil Diamond -lol -a celebration -must make it easier for the family if you have planned it yourself -way to go !!!!!
