my daughter works as a comms. officer for the police. She answers 999 calls and also general calls! She has worked there for just over a year. She enjoys her job - but for the last couple of weeks she has been crying on and off for no reason - also mood swings. I am wondering if its pressure of the job or maybe something else - I would appreciate any ideas thnx saxonlynn

Why don't you ask her?
We're not gonna be able to help since we don't know your daughter...
How old is she?
Does she have a boyfriend/Husband? Could it be that he's upsetting her?
Is she having problems with friends?
Is she bullied in the work place?
So many questions.
I'd take her out, maybe for a walk in a park. Tell her that you're worried, and ask her whats wrong.
It sounds hormonal. All depends on her age what's causing it; change of pill, menopause, pregnancy or just the body changing. Maybe a talk with a gynaecologist might help (preferably a woman who understands!!)

you say she works in police comms call centre? has she had any abusive/drunk callers? Is the workload to much?
If she works nights then it could be knocking her body clock.
Could it be depression, i can't think from what because she sounds like a lovely well rounded young women. Just be there for her as a shoulder to cry on when she needs it!!
all the best!
classis signs of clinical depression especially as there seems to be no reason, a visit to the doctors before it gets too entrenched is advisable. There is no shamr in admitting to this in this day and age.

Hormones could be the culprit ... I honestly think if they don't get in your twenties they make up for later in life I had spots recently ... teenage acne type spots - I'd take crying anyday! lol. Is she a girly girl - just to get an insight into her standard hormone levels ... or a tomboy. I have to say I suspected pregnancy too. Mood swings I always wonder about undiagnosed Diabetes or sugar highs and lows in general ... does she eat properly?
Hi sax - Get her to have a check up at the doctors, there could be an underlying medical problem. It could well be depression as has already been mentioned, depression has no reasoning ,although there could have been a trigger she is not aware of xxx
Hi. I have in fact done this type of work and realise how pressurised it can be at times. Some of the incidents you have to deal with can be very upsetting, and sometimes you ask yourself, 'Could I have done that better'. you can feel so helpless following an incident and ideally there should be a debrief where upsetting incidents can be talked through. I know where I use to work they liked to have their Comms workers to be older, with more life experiences. it sounds to me that something has happened which has upset your daughter. if you know of anyone who your daughter would confide with, I would tell them about your daughters behaviour and see if she would disclose something to them. Best of luck.
