Breath Test and Rennies!
17 Answers
I know someone who is convinced that if you're slightly over the limit and pop a couple of Rennies, it will show up OK on breathalyser. Is this an urban myth, or is there a smidgeon of truth in it. I can't convince him it must be rubbish.

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.I have heard this myself (I am teetoal so have no intention of seeing if it works). A friend of mine said it could possibly work on the basis of the calcium carbonste in the Rennies working as and absorbing agent - intercepting some of thecohl as it passes through the mouth. Sounds like pseudo-scientific b**locks to me though.
So why would he want to know? Surely if he has no intention of drinking and riving - why would he care? And what sort of helpful information would it be to know if it does or not "Ooh i'm a bit ****** but i'll drive home anyway" - "Oh don't worry mate I know that if you pop a couple of rennies they'll never know" - how is that useful to anyone or responsible for anyone to tell you whether it's true or not. ?The same thing went round about sucking a 2p or something and that's not true either. Sorry I wasn't meaning to rant, just cannot understand the mentality behind drink drivers. I read your question as this is something that he does - or is going to try and you have to admit you didn't exactly say "don't worry he doesn't intend on doing it" or even that you don't condone it, and just wanted to find out if it's true. It's irresponsible to tell people whether this is true otherwise people might try it - they might get away with it and then be able to give you a categorical answer but it's not exactly safe is it. That is all i was trying to get albeit in a rather ranty way - sorry!
AAARRGRGGHHH I JUST TYPED THE LONGST ANSWER AND IT DISAPPEARED!!!!! Anyway will try and type it all again - cheesefreek - my point wasn't to have a rant, well it was actually - i absolutely cannot tolerate drink drivers and from your question you didn't exactly say - don't worry he's not going to try it - or i don't actually want to do it, just know if it's true... also what use is it to possibly know whether it is true or not - what is he going to do if his mate is a bit ****** and wants to drive home "don't worry mate have a couple of rennies and you'll be fine" - it's hardly responsible is it - and i'm not saying he would do that just don;t see what the point of knowing is. It might work, fine and someone might get away with it and be able to give you a ctegorical answer but it's hardly safe is it. The same thing went round about sucking a 2p which is (gross as well as) not true, it wasn't meant to come across that i'm on a high horse or anything - just can't see how the answer to this would benefit anyone.
For gawd's sake!! It's happens to be my hubby I'm talking about by the way. He would never DREAM of trying it himself. We both DESPISE drunk drivers. We're both human! It was one of those questions that we've pondered about for years. He doesnt even use Rennies for INDIGESTION!!
As for not driving after drinking the evening before Vinny? - get real! The streets would be empty every day!!!
Ok point taken, but after the amount of idiot children that have been posting on here i wasn't sure that you're not some 17 year old who's just got his licence wants to get plastered, drive and get away with it! sorry if i have caused you any offence, just aiming to be responsible in case you weren't a grown up. And also the night before thing is true - two people i know of have been done the day after a heavy sesh the night before, and it makes no difference to the courts - they both got 18 months band - the same as someone who got into a car staight from a pub for example...
