If you have an infection under your skin that is very painful is it bad to squeeze the pus out?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.I think it's probably better to let the pus come to the surface on it's own, cos when you squeeze something out you are opening the surface of the skin & creating an open area that could get more infected.I suppose it depends on how extensive the infection is. Obviously if your whole head is one big pus balloon, it's probably time to see the Dr.
On the other hand, who can resist a spot that needs popping?!!
It depends how close it is to the surface. If it's right at the surface with a yellew pimply bit, then it's usually safe to squeeze it or prick it to let the pus out; if it's further in with red yuckiness, then there is a danger that squeezing would cause it to burst inwards rather than outwards - which would cause damage to the skin and make it worse.
Never ever squeeze infections - you will only irritate them, push them under so it spreads or if you pop it add more infection in the area or make it more prone to further infection and spreading.
If you are in a lot of pain or worried go to the doctors and regularily apply teatree oil or an antibacterial formula.
