Sunburned Eyes

After being out in the sun over the weekend and Monday, my eyes have swollen up, and blistered and I look like John merrick the elephant man. Some discomfort, but not acute pain. Treating it with calamine. Will it go back to normal without treatment from a doctor? If I did go to a doctor, what would he do?

use some cold teabags on ypur eyes and in future treat the sun with respect and use sunglasses

Eyes are rather precious, so I'd go to a doctor asap.
I've no idea what they would do, but I think I'd like someone with a bit of knowledge to have a look at my eyes if it was me.
You don't have to take their advice if you don't want to, but why not give yourself the option ?

Well if the Calomine lotion's got into your eyes, that won't do them much good either!

No, the lotion is not in my eyes. My eye lids and the flesh just below my eyes are swollen, so I'm looking through two slits! I can just about wear my glasses.
I look like I have been doing ten rounds with Mike Tyson!
I could get a job scaring kids!
It's uncomfortable rather than painful.

It sounds like you have an allergy to tree pollen Theland1, my eyes have been killing me the last few days. Tree pollen is bad this time of year.

My eyes feel like they are on fire and could do with a dose of cold water.

Sorry to hear of your discomfort, but unless your eyes are very sensitive, I've never heard of anyone being blistered and puffed up after sunbathing or anything - not in that area, anyway. I think you might need your doctor to take a look, because your eyes are very important.

It sounds like an allergic reaction.....if you have any aqeous cream,that would sooth the skin-you can wash with it also

The swelling is now even worse since I posted the question. One of my sons is going to take me to the hospital to get checked out. Thank you all anyway for your replies. Hopefully it will be nothing, but I am looking out of two slits now, but still no real pain, thank goodness.

Theland, you sound exactly like i did 17 years ago. I never had any reaction to pollen. One day i walk to the shops through a wooded area and arrived at the other side almost blind.

My eyes swelled up so much, i could hardly see. It looked like i'd been punched in both eyes.

It was just my time to become allergic to pollen, i get it every year now. The swelling isn't so bad, but i sneeze a lot. I just learn to live with it.

I sincerely hope that's all you have, fingers crossed. :-)

Just back from the hospital. (That was quick wasn't it?)
Doctors checked me out and think it is allergy. Gave me "Allercalm" tablets, three a day. Well at least I have peace of mind that it's nothing more serious. Still feels uncomfortable, but not painful, and of course I look even more ugly than I usually do.

As you say, bless the NHS. When you're suddenly ill they really do usually come up trumps.

I have the same problems - On holiday, following the first day of exposure to the sun, I often get puffiness around the eyes. The only remedy I think is what the 1st answer suggests - More care, more respect for the sun and war sunglasses. We'll see.
