I would have thought mosquitoes!

Seriously, unless you are in the sunnier climates there is not really much to worry about. Just use an antiseptic cream or failing that dab with urine (preferably you own).
mmm, choice

(yes, yes, I know it works)

but where were you bitten?

Aldi`s sell a wristband to keep `mossies` away.
unless you get a reaction to mozzie bites (like I always do) I shouldn't worry. But antihistamine cream should do the trick.
I've heard that taking Vitamin B1 for two weeks before you go and for the duration of your holiday keeps them away.

Apparently it makes your blood smell strange (only they can smell it) and they don't like it!
I always react badly no matter how strong the DEET is that I use. I have heard the Vit B1 thing too but have never tried it, and my friend swears by covering her legs in lemon juice - apprently they don't like the citrus smell.
B1 does work, however it does cause some side effects, I always wear a baseball cap and after taking them my sweat cause the bad to go orange.
Take some antihistamine cream with you or buy it there, it works a treat and stops itching immediately. Anything with citronella in will help to keep them away, when we are in Goa we all use Avon's Skin So Soft Soft & Fresh (used to be Woodland Fresh) body oil spray when we go out in the evening. Best advice is try not to get bitten - in Goa the residents on our complex all go in around dusk, shut all doors and windows and stay put for an hour or so, obviously that's not an option if you're on holiday! I've also heard but am not a medic so can't confirm, that it's blood type O that they love best - which is quite a lot of us I think!
Anjunagirl's suggestion of Avon Skin So Soft oil is fabulous. I have tried all sorts of repellent over the years to no avail. Someone had told me about the Avon thing and I thought, I might as well give it a go. It was fabulous! Only 1 bite in a fortnight instead of the usual 2 or 3 a night. As for the blood group thing, I'd heard that too. My Dad is O positive, and he is plagued mosquitoes like me. My Mum and brother are not affected at all. I presumed I must be O positive too, but when I started to give blood, I found out I was AB positive, the same as my Mum. So that threw that theory out of the water!
eat marmite regularly, it apparently makes your skin smell of something mozzy's dont like?
