The pill and pregnancy

Someone correct me if i'm wrong in all of this, just need a bit of help or explaining - when you're on the pill it works by tricking your body into thinking it's pregnant, and the periods that you get at the end of every packet are fake ones, so how does this work with pregnancy tests - if you're body thinks you are pregnant will it show up that you are even when you're not just because of the pill and could you be pregnant but still have a fake period?

No when you are on the pill your body doesn't actually release an egg I thought? And then at the end of the packet the womb lining is released because no egg has been fertilised (which would make it stick to the lining and start growing). Maybe I'm being a bit stupid?

Pregnancy tests (urine or blood)look for the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). These tests are extremely reliable - between 97% and 99% reliable. This hormone (hCG) is not (or should not be)produced when you are on the pill. It is still possible to have periods when you are pregnant, although not so common. You can get much more information by doing a google search (www.google.com) using words such as "the pill", "pregnanct tests" etc

Ok some of that makes sense then, but if i got pregnant while on the pill (it isn't 100%) would i still have a period at the end of my packet?

Quite possibly. As RevShirls said, it is possible to have periods when you are pregnant right up to delivery! More importantly, if you suspect you are pregnant and on the pill you need to stop taking it straight away.

If you think you may be pregnant you should see your doctor. If you are on the pill you need to take it reguarly for it to be effective, even missing a day can increase your chance of getting pregnant.

If you were pregnant you'd most likely still have the other symptoms even if you didn't miss a period (ie nausea, painful boobs, going to the loo a lot and weight gain). You can do a test to see while you're on the pill anyway.
