I am getting stomach pains, very similar to that of hunger pangs. Its not particularly painful (contradiction, I know), more niggling and no matter how much I eat it won't stop. It seems to be at the top of my stomach, almost at the bottom of my ribs.

It started yesterday and in a bid to stop it, I've done nothing but stuff my face (we're talking a HUGE roast dinner, 2 packets of crisps at a time, all the biccies i can get my hands on!)! Has anyone else had any similar problems. I have good health and no-one in my family have suffered stomach problems. i'm not on any medication. I don't think its serious, but it will drive me mental!

Well, it's obviously not anything to do with hunger.

From time to time I get an empty achiness from acid and it's very easy to think it's hunger. How about trying some Gaviscon and seeing if this helps
Peppermint tea can be quite soothing for tummy problems.
However you should seek medical advice, certainly if it persists or worsens. NHS DIrect would be able to give you more advice.

Eating loads in the long term will only pile on the pounds, I should know LOL

Hope it improves!!!!
You might be pregnant...
It is like a burning gnawing paid under your breastbone with maybe some chest pain, shortness of breath?

Could be acid reflux or the start of an ulcer.

See if antacids help and avoid anti-inflammatories (eg aspirin or ibuprofen), spicy and rich foods and smoking.

Maybe best not to overeat as well though in ulcers the pain can sometimes be relieved by eating.

Could also be a pulled muscle or something like gallstones.

If the pain isn't helped by antacids or gets worse or you get any jaundice (yellow tinge to you) then go see your GP, any vomiting or blood in your poo, shoulder pain or fever then go to A&E.

jenna, why is shoulder pain significant? arf arf...re being a man. I don't think i need to go into why i might not be pregnant...
I can indicate something wrong like internal bleeding.

I've got a tummy ulcer at the mo, have had them before and very painful.

There is a chance of perforation or bleeding with them so if the pain gets a lot worse or you get other symptoms like above it should be checked out right away.
Maybe be being a bit obvious here, but if it is really just the empty sensation, tummy rumbles as though hungry, you could be thirsty instead.

I have experienced tummy rumbling before which go away pretty quickly when i have a few glasses of water.

Mistaking thirst for hunger is one of the most common reasons for overeating in the western world.

You could try drinking more water for a while, see if that helps.

could be a hiatus hernia, can you feel any lumps/bumps that hurt when you press on them? do you feel nauseous and in pain when you bend over or get food come up into your throat/mouth?
Question Author
i don't think its a hernia, no bumps etc and I also don't think its an ulcer. My boyfriend and best friend both have ulcers and they get actual pain. Its still there this morning and its not actually sore, just annoying and slightly uncomfortable. I'll try drinking alot today and see if it helps any!
Hi lopsibear. I had these exact symptoms last year for a few weeks. it turned out to just be quite bad case of trapped wind!! Could it be with you? Try some Andrews liver salts and see if that helps any.
