what do you think could make someone obsessed with war? i dont mean in a bad way - as in, they do recognise the human impact war has on nations, societies, cultures, individuals - but every aspect of war facinates them - why would someone be like that?

I doubt that it's anything very wicked; people devote themselves to trainspotting, buying shoes or whatever. Such people may become famous experts in their chosen field, so it's not necessarily dangerous even if it's obsessive. On the other hand if he looks like a gun nut, fascinated with weaponry, you should maybe keep your distance.
