I've had night sweats and flushes for over a year. None of the articles I've read have said how long these things go on for. I's annoying rather than painful. Do they go on forever?

unfortunately, for some very unlucky ladies they can seem to go on forever. i've been having them for about 5 years, but they have become much less frequent and not as 'hot' in the last couple of years, sometimes going away completely for quite a few weeks. i have my fingers crossed that they'll go away completely one day.
Sorry to "upset" you ladies but I know of ladies in their 70`s who still have them. I`m 55, had a hysterectomy at 29 & still get flushes.
We are doomed!!

I am five years into mine, and still get hot flushes!!!

Oh ..not the answer I wanted to hear, but thanks anyway girls!
why dont you go to the docs and get hrt, im on it and have been for many many years. its very good stuff
Find that they are very reluctant to prescribe hrt these days, unless you are a youngish woman!!!!,

I would rather do the 'natural' thing and I don't want periods again or their equivalent. There's a bit of doubt about the hrt miracle anyway isn't there? It's only a temporary delay for these symptoms anyway. It isn't really bad to live with but I was hoping that it wouldn't go on for so long. It stopped after a few months for a while and then came back again. Mine is more like getting hot, then getting cold, then hot again-some nights are really annoying.
Had mine for 16 years now.The day ones are very seldom now but most nights I still get one or two. My Doctor said some people get them for rest of their life .I have learned to live with them after such a long time and am so glad that I did not opt for HRT.
you definately learn to live with them though and not let them be such a problem as they are at the beginning. i didn't go down the hrt route either although i know it can be a life-saver for some ladies who really suffer with this blooming menopause stuff. i was surprised to learn a few years ago that there are actually about 35 menopause symptoms - 35!!!!! - it's no wonder us ladies of a certain age can get a little 'tetchy' at times, men would have taken to their beds long ago. i'd still rather be a woman than a man, women can be such a huge support for each other.
Sorry ganesh, I really know how you feel. Been into mine around 2 years now, poor old girl ha ha. No one tells you how long these things go on for, I suppose its different for everyone. I have a household full of air fans around the home, a cupboard full of jumpers that I will most probably never wear again, even my t shirts I have to watch what material they are made from just touching them them brings me out in a hot flush. So chin up your not alone, it will soon be winter (bring it on lol).
My mum has been on HRT since she had a hysterectomy at the age of 40. At 70, she decided to come off the treatment and immediately began having hot flushes and her hair started falling out!! She went back on HRT again!
