I am sposed to go next Monday but I am going on holiday next week and everything hectic so was going to do it when I get back but have noticed in the forms a question saying have you been outside of the UK in last 6 months, will that stop me giving when I get back?
I think it depends what country you visit, some countries like Africa have water borne parasites that can cause infections that enter the bloodstream and may not be detectable on initial blood screening.Try phoning the transfusion service and ask which countries they exclude.
ah its just they had seperate questions about africa. Ok well only going canary islands and no dirty business there so hopefully I can give blood when I get back :-) Thank you both x
actually a girl was just talking about this at lunchtime in our staff room. She had just been round to give blood and was just back her holidays. When she said she had been to Turkey they mentioned the particular airport she had flown into and said as it was there she could not give due to increased chance of malaria!
i have given 27 pints ( round of applause) but have started blood pressure tabs and am no longer able to give, however if I can change my tabs then I could (age considered) possibly give a hundred ( I think) ish
more men die of heart attacks than women because they dont change their blood every month, unlike women (who have periods) If you are male and dont give blood it may help you avoid having a heart attack, , it doesnt hurt and while you are doing it you know you are saving someones life it is also a really feel good factor x If you havent tried please do x
