Tickling sensation on upper back and thighs

For the past few months my husband has had a "crawling" sensation on his upper back which has got increasingly worse - constantly shifting and twitching on seats to get comfortable position. Cannot tolerate any long journeys now.Initially did not have this sensation when lying down but does now. Has anyone had this experience. Please advise
