High Prescription glasses.

Hi, can anyone help me? I have a very high prescription for my glasses. Does anyone know a website where i could buy some. I have tried a few and when i go to select the range they dont even go that far.? My last glasses cost a fortune from Specsavers and I cant really afford another pair. - thanks

I'd be very wary of buying high prescription lenses online. I am very short-sighted and skint, but still wouldn't consider it! My optician takes so much care fitting my glasses that I would not be happy to go without that aftercare.

Have you considered joining a health cashback scheme. I am with these guys http://www.bhsf.co.uk/
It does pay for it all, but it helps.

Got a brochure recently from glassesdirect.co.uk who seem very good value but I have not tried them myself. Think worth a try though as they are very cheap.

you could consider getting your eyes lasered. okay, it's scary but financially it would probably end up balancing out.. and life it just fantastic when your sight is back to 20/20 :o) (that's me without my specs!)

Thanks for the answers, I emailed Glasses direct and they cant do my prescription, seems like when glasses are sold online they have to sign up to something that exludes them from selling complex prescriptions. I'd be too scared of laser eye surgery , Ive considered it, but apparently my prescription isnt even suitable for contact lenses/ bifocals or variofolcals. I had to pay �160.00 on top of the price of the glasses just to have them thinnned to the best level. I have got a nice modern pair , but even now they still seem thick on one lens. I think I will just have to get a second pair of the very cheapest ones to wear around the house, as I'm terrified of damaging them , they were so expensive. - thanks again.

Try googling 'glasses online' and see what's there. I've just ordered a pair from optical4less (an American site) and it cost me $82 including postage for frames plus lenses with 1.67 refractive index, anti scratch and anti-reflective coating (all of which cost me a fortune when I bought from an optician). I have a fairly odd prescription - +6 and -1.75 sphere in one eye, and last time I bought glasses online I found not all went up far enough, but they've got better. I've bought my last 2 pairs of glasses online and have been very happy with them; the high street opticians really rip you off and if you've already bought one pair and are after a spare it's definitely worth buying online as you know what you need and shouldn't require so much aftercare.
